ALTERNATE HISTORY Thread - What would happen if...

What if Odo was able to save that changeling baby?

Section 31 quickly kidnaps the baby and uses it as pawn to negotiate a treaty with the Founders. The changeling baby, being the first infant to be discovered in a millennium, is more important to the Founders than the Alpha Quadrant and Odo combined. The Dominion agrees to a non-aggression pact with the Federation and the Klingon.

Odo remains a solid, and eventually marries Kira. Sisko is still tasked with the mission of destroying the Pah'Raith, but is asked to do so much earlier than if the war had broken out. Sisko succeeds and becomes a Prophet. As a prophet, Sisko was essentially in control of the worm hole and he would wipe out every Dominion warship and convoy that attempts to come through. The war never happens.

RESET BUTTON:

What if Sisko was able to dispose of Dukat int he caves of fire without having to sacrifice his own life? (Meaning Sisko lived as a corporeal being while Dukat was vaporized.)

That would have been a much better ending to the show.

Sisko moves to the new Federation member Bajor and builds his house for Kassidy and child. Jake becomes an important journalist. Colonel Kira is in charge of DS9. Odo stays chief of security for her after spending a few days in the Link teaching his people. Lieutenant Nog becomes the chief of operations on DS9 as O'Brien moved to Earth to teach. Julian and Ezri begin a professional relationship as doctor and psychologist while building their personal relationship. Worf is off on Kronos or other places playing ambassador. Kai Winn died along with Dukat (thank goodness), and the new Kai is some random, harmless Vedek we've never heard of before. Happy ending for once!

REBOOT:

What if Jake and Nog had died on the U.S.S. Valiant during its foolish attack on the Dominion battleship?

REBOOT:

What if Jake and Nog had died on the U.S.S. Valiant during its foolish attack on the Dominion battleship?

Jake and Nog are declared missing and after a long search, are given memorial services. Quark sells his bar to Rom and goes back into business with his cousin Gaila. Between the loss of his son and the death of his friend Dax, Sisko resigns his commission and returns to Earth. Without Jake to find him after being stabbed by the Pah'Wraith cultist, Ben Sisko dies.

With Sisko dead, Kira assumes permanent command of Deep Space Nine with Worf as her second in command. Ezri Dax winds up on Deep Space Nine searching for meaning, and is convinced by Colonel Kira to remain onboard after she helps Garak with his psychological issues. Colonel Kira takes the Defiant on the supply run to AR-558 and allows Commander Worf to remain at the base with Dax and Bashir. With no Nog to hear the Jem'Hadar, the scouting patrol is killed and the size of the Jem'Hadar garrison is unknown, allowing them to wipe out the defenders of AR-558. Kira and O'Brien return to Deep Space Nine where, with a majority of new senior officers, they help oversee the end of the Dominion War. Odo is killed by Section 31's disease along with most of the Great Link. Because Odo couldn't convince the Founder to surrender, Cardassia Prime is turned into a blackened husk from the Jem'Hadar leveling and the pyrrhic victory that is fought out in the skies above.

RESET BUTTON: What if Odo had never "seen" the image of Gowron while being stripped of his abilities by the Link?

The Martok changeling would have been exposed anyway. During the ceremony where Gowron is handing out medals for the Order of the Bat'leth, one of the Klingons would have challenged him, accusing Gowron of pushing the Empire into a foolish alliance with the Dominion - which is exactly what Fake Martok was trying to do. Fake Martok, who obviously knows nothing of Klingon honor, would have intervened to try and help Gowron. This immediately raised the fury of the other Klingons gathered there, who shot Martok on general principles, not knowing that he was a changeling. After that, the Klingons turned on the Dominion and restored their alliance with the Federation. The war proceeds pretty much as we saw it, except Cardassia was not levelled (since they never joined the Dominion).

RESET BUTTON!

What if the Valiant had succeeded in its mission, and Watters and crew returned to DS9 in triumph?

I'm not sure Watters' task was to return to DS9. He would have kept Jake in the brig until he returned. Upon hearing that Jake was returned in the brig of a ship run by cadets (+Nog), Sisko would have demanded Jake's release immediately. He would send Watters back to Earth under the supervision of some real officers. He would appreciate the info provided, but disapprove of sending kids out to a war zone. Nog is severely reprimanded for cooperating in such a risky, foolish, and basically cultish operation. He gets a permanent reprimand in his record (keeping him from becoming Lieutenant at the end of the show). Using this new information, the Federation is able to defend themselves better from that type of battleship. This means that fewer ships, and therefore lives, are lost in those big battles at the end.

REBOOT:

What if Garak had 'accidentally' shot and killed Kira on Cardassia in one of the last few episodes?

What if Garak had shot and killed Kira on the way in to the Dominion stronghold in "What You Leave Behind"?

I can't imagine why Garak would have done that...

Odo figures out that Garak killed Kira, and kills Garak himself before linking with the Female Changeling. As Garak was never exactly an upright citizen his actions don't significantly damage Odo's faith in solids overall, lucky for Our Heroes. Still, without Garak's ultimately positive influence on Cardassia the planet never does manage to recover from the wounds left by the Dominion, and within a century or so the Cardassian species has become extinct.

What if Neela's phaser blast didn't miss entirely, and she had instead inadvertently shot Vedek Winn?

(laughs) I'm tempted to say do both, but for now, as I'm pretty sure Neela's phaser wasn't set to Stun, let's assume it's fatal.
