Alley Sued

TrekToday

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan‘s Kirstie Alley has been sued for false advertising. The suit was filed by Marian Abramyan, who used Alley’s Organic Liaison line of weight loss products. Alley has struggled with weight issues for many years, and while heavy, had her own reality TV show called Fat Actress. She is a [...]

Is this really connected to Star Trek? It's a pretty loose thread.

As far as the topic itself, I say you deserve whatever you get if you're gullible enough to buy into this kind of program. There's no easy route if you want to get in shape.

Take the damned fork out of your mouth, and go to the gym a few times a week for an hour. unless you have an unusual medical problem, you'll lose weight.

:)

^ Maybe, maybe not. I have hypothryroid, and while it's been basically under control since onset, I have gained weight over the years.

I rollerblade pretty aggresively in 90+ degree weather 3-5 times a week, 1-2 hours a day lately and haven't lost any weight, while eating once, maybe twice a day.

And not big meals either, a sandwich for lunch and usually soup for dinner.

Admittedly I'm in my mid forties, but I should be losing some weight. It's aggravating.

Sometimes it's not as easy as people think. I'm hoping a trip to an endocrinologist will shed some light on what's happening.

I've never understood the mentality of people like the plaintiff. Do they honestly think that all you need to do to shed the pounds is pop a pill three times daily? If it was that easy then America would be the fittest nation in the world.

Now I'm sure that whatever Alley was pimping had some value. It probably would reduce your appetite but that would do you no good whatsoever if you don't attempt to eat a balanced meal and exercise. Pills can't do everything for you.

Heck, I started losing weight once I dropped soda from my diet. Man, I love soda but that stuff is fuckin' poison! I also do strength training so that I can convert the old lard factory into a muscle machine. Probably be getting on the cardio again soon. I have a bad knee and bad ankles so I'm trying to figure out what sort of cardio I can pull off without suffering a sprain or dislocation.

It's been found that any pill that claims to "dissolve fat" is BS, and some or many diet pills have bad side effects.

Abbott pulled Meridia off the market due to heart attack & stroke risks.

Most diet pills are stimulants of some sort.

Admiral, did you try diet soda at all? I switched to diet versions of the two sodas I drink, but I'm not sure if it's helped. At least I'm not gaining weight, but losing it is damn near impossible.

These Trek Today auto-threads are amusing.. half of them would have been axed by mods as not relevant if posted by an individual.

Every time I think about eating butter I remember reading an Alley interview in some trash mag where she said her great great great love of butter was to blame. And then I don't eat the butter.

EDIT: OMG I love how this article on Trek Today is tagged "the Wrath of Khan" when it's all about Alley being fat!

Swimming is probably the best low impact cardio workout.

Can't speak to your specific thyroid problem but if you are skipping meals, your body might be trying to compensate by increasing its fat-storage. Smaller, but a bit more frequent meals and healthy snacks will maintain an even blood sugar level and make it easier (not easy) to lose weight--but it could take some weeks to be noticeable.

Oh and KHAAAANNNNNN!!!!! (just so it can be a tangentially Trek related post ;) )

I guess I'll have to pick up some trunks next time I'm out. Also I'll have to learn some swim strokes other than the dog paddle.
