Spoilers All Things STAR WARS - News, Speculation & Spoilers Thread

Yep... surprising it got past any QC for the 1997SE... and was never fixed in any of the 2004SE, 2011SE, or 2019SE releases.

‘Never forget that the Death Star has been in clear site of Yavin IV from the beginning of the battle since 1997 and this is how the Special Edition should have ended.'

.
Welcome to why nitpicking went by the wayside for me in my late twenties. The website "Movie Mistakes" started it, Cinema Sims carried it forward and videos like this finished the job. It blows my mind that instead of seeing the battle people are looking for the sets and strings that hold it together 😳

I saw someone complaining that in the redone X-Wing approach scene to the Death Star they did for the Special Editions, it looks like Yavin IV is already in view of the Death Star, as the Camera pans from Yavin IV to the Death Star in one shot.

you know how you can stand at the corner of a building and see 2 people, but they can't see each other?

I have a much bigger complaint that it doesn't look as good.

Except in this case we can SEE the building and it isn't blocking the two people.

There aren't many shots in the SE that take me out of the 1977 movie more than this one. (The rest are Mos Eisley.)

I'll take your word on that - although this isn't 'nitpicking' mistakes - it is part of the fans' attempt to catalogue all the various changes made to the Original Trilogy films over the years...

https://starwarsviscomp.wordpress.com : https://bsky.app/profile/starwarsviscomp.com : https://x.com/StarWarsVisComp - all kudos and credit to doubleofive for this and more.

... in a bid to help preservationists like Harmy and others get the details just right for the various OT preservation projects... before we got our hands on theatrical prints.

Or for adywan and others in helping fix / address the countless various mistakes in the official releases for their Fan Edits / fan-made Special Editions.

As well as that chronicling of Star Wars history - including errors introduced in the various 1997SE, 2004SE, 2011SE and 2019 SE releases... and also putting to bed some wild claims, misrememberings, and incorrect assertions out there in general over the years - as well as some obfuscation from George and Lucasfilm themselves (in official publications and articles etc) over the years.

The obsession breaks my brain. I've over this. The words make it sound like a passion project, but the releases make it look like a nitpicking drudgery. There's no joy in there. Chronicling changes, and mistakes, and such, as well as the elitism of being a preservationist.

Yes, I'm grumpy over it. I appreciate the hard work, but the attitude just rubs me the wrong way.

Then 'good for you', I guess. Feel free to simply ignore the posts on the subject if they have this effect on you and your rub. :techman:

Others may find it useful, informative, and insightful etc - especially those with a fondness for Star Wars history and preservation - so here we are.

Ah, yes. Others must love Star Wars history more than I.

I enjoy Star Wars history very much. I don't enjoy the breakdown over every single frame.

Good for them, I guess :techman:

Nope, I never said that - nor inferred it.

Again, feel free to simply ignore the posts on the subject if they have this effect on you and your rub.

ETA: interesting random edit that took the end off Rogue One, added a New Hope Deleted Scene and created a fun transition between the two films:

I found it interesting. One aspect of Rogue One I don't like is the tonal transfer from Rogue One into A New Hope. The pacing and energy is way strange, Vader's attitude is bizarre, and how they're treating the Tantive IV feels odd. While it's not a perfect fix, I do appreciate the effort to bring in the Briggs scene, and his fly outfit, while adjust the pacing a little.

It wouldn't be that hard to make a version of the shot where that was the case. Have the moon sliding behind Yavin, and then the Death Star coming out from behind it at the end, with the stars and planet moving so it looks like the fighters are going around it in an arc instead of a straight line. The way it was made, the moon is directly behind the squadron, and the Death Star is directly in front of it, so the three positions are all in a straight line.

Cheers

I'm not sure what is meant by moved Rogue One.
