Lister:”What’s you view on the situation, Hol?”
Holly:”Straight up your nose when you lean in like that.”

Back in the Red Part I

I just finished a complete rewatch of all of Red Dwarf on the Britbox streamer. It's the second time I've watched the revival seasons/specials, and the first time I've watched the original and revival (or original, first revival, and much later second revival) back-to-back. I think it's also the first time I've seen the un-Remastered versions of the first few seasons, at least since they originally ran on PBS way back when -- although the series title card on Britbox misleadingly uses the Remastered logo.

It's weird -- my impression the first time around with the revival was that Back to Earth was terrible and Series 10-12 were decent but far short of the series's prime, though I liked The Promised Land. This time around, I found that BtE was kind of okay, Series 10-12 were often quite good and felt true to the spirit of the original run, and TPL is possibly the best thing they've ever done. It's Series 8, especially its latter half, that's the nadir of the series. I never felt the solo-Naylor Series 7-8 were as good as the Grant-Naylor seasons, but Naylor's work on the revival has been much better. Maybe seeing the revival stuff after the low point of Series 8 has improved it in my eyes.

Holly: “Emergency! Emergency! Would Arnold Rimmer report to white corridor 1-4-5.
Emergency! Emergency! There is an emergency going on. It’s still going on.”

Kryten:” Are you okay, sir? I heard yelling.”

Lister:” No Kryten. I am not. I’v just been assaulted by Tutankhamun’s horny grandmother.”

Sad news as Charles Augins (aka Queeg 500 and the choreographer of Tongue Tied) has died:

I just discovered an old comedy on YouTube starring Craig Charles called Captain Butler.

Apparently there is only six episodes, and it was to run on Channel 4 in 1997.

Update

I have only watched 4 episodes so far. Surprisingly, there is someone in episode 2 that looks very Kryten-like playing Admiral Nelson.

I remember it and yes, it was nice to see Robert Llewellyn pop up. That was when Craig Charles unintentionally monopolised Friday nights in January '97; Captain Butler and Red Dwarf VII ran concurrently on C4 and BBC2, with Funky Bunker on ITV. I recall reading that he was understandably annoyed with the scheduling, as months of work flew past the public, and The Girly Show named him "Wanker of the Week" for his irritating ubiquity.
