All Good Things Reshoot

Reynolds

How many people would like a "special" version of the two part All Good Things episode with all the future scenes shot in 2019. All of the actors will have naturally aged 25 years. Maybe the sets will be recreated maybe the reshoot can happen entirely on blue screen and then added in.

I can't imagine how this would ever happen.

And I'd be worried the performances wouldn't be as good as what we got at the time either.

I think it would be highly improbable, but really, really cool. But I also think that if you could get them all together for something like that, there are other things that would be even cooler that could be done, instead.

It's a cool idea that I've heard tossed around on various message boards, but it would be very expensive to do and the quality would likely be much lower than what we already have.

Also, there's a bit of an inconsistancy as to which actors would need to reshoot. There's really no need to reshoot Dorn's scenes, since he's cover in makeup anyhow. Brent Spiner shouldn't reshoot his scenes since Data doesn't age and would detract from the comedy of his aging program. Patrick Stewart would still need the aging makeup, since his has barely aged in 25 years...

In theory, it's a really cool idea. But in reality, AGT is such a beautiful piece of television that I would never want to mess with it.

I would love it.

Nobody wants to see a 70 year-old Brent Spiner play Data, least of all Brent Spiner. Also Marina Sirtis would have to be excluded from this reunion of actors, since her character is dead in the future scenes. Then there's the problem of how do you deal with John de Lancie who has to interact with present day Patrick Stewart? Q is aged like an decrepit old man in one scene only.

Yeah it's insane. It would be like trying to get an actor from the 90s appear in old footage from TOS.

There's a bit of a difference between "Trials and Tribble-ations" and what's being proposed here. Namely, that the DS9 crew were inserted into certain shots of the original TOS ep because they were telling a new story while Deep Space Nine was actively on the air. All an AGT reshoot would be is inserting the TNG actors as they appear now in an episode we've already seen, and would just be reenacting the same lines they did before. There would be nothing new here, so what's the point?

If you're bringing the TNG cast back together to film something, wouldn't you rather they film a new adventure?

I was really happy with the old age makeup they gave the actors in AGT. They were aged without looking like they were wearing crazy old man prosthetics.

The concept theoretically would be possible without dragging in senior citizen actors. Just age them in the existing footage with CGI.

Or putting Hayden Christensen into Return of the Jedi.

I'd rather a new story with Old Riker blowing things up with his "more power" Enterprise D.

Well, there's currently no limit to the ability to digitally insert new shots of a single actor into existing footage (like current Stewart replaced into original footage with DeLancie). So it's certainly possible. But I really don't care to see it done. The episode was fine.

Just because a thing can be done, does not mean that it should be done. Leave well enough alone.

Imagine this being done with The Deadly Years? Elderly Shatner is nothing like scrawny elderly Kirk was imagined. :)

I would rather see the small errors in recreating the original 'Encounter at Farpoint' version of the Enterprise fixed digitally than have actors respeaking their lines.

Actors would never agree to this. People don't like to be reminded of how they've aged, much less actors that live in a business based on appearances.

I can't see the point. Getting the actors together again would be great, but time better spent filming something new. Part of the charm of AGT is that that future didn't happen, that the characters hadn't really aged, that they were as young and vibrant at the end of the episode as we remember them. Might have a small measure of dolefulness to see them really aged.
