Most Trek series come to or near their broadcast year in a time travel episode. While as an adult I find the people in stasis plot drags, it's TNG's version of bringing the 1980s to them.

He did a lot of good stuff. Even his early works, which he wrote when he was young: Carrie, The Long Walk, etc.
He actually wrote Rage (which is out of print) when he was only 18. Good story, but he was wise to do away with it.
When you did three devolve into lizard people episodes in a row, I thought for sure you'd do Genesis to make it an even four. That said, while it's a terrible episode, it is a least directed competently.
No disputes regarding rankings though with this entry. They're all pretty bad.

"Identity Crisis" below "Threshold?" Nope. Can't even imagine that. Threshold isn't interesting, actively creates disinterested, and the infinite velocity aspect of warp travel was a bizarre addition. "Identity Crisis" is interesting and unique if not realized fully. "Threshold" gets by only by reputation.

Parturition is the one I should have put down here with these, to complete the lizard babies set. Slightly missed opportunity, since it's coming soon.
It's not all that unique as you can see it recycled in the episode I ranked one better that director Levar Burton was ashamed to have directed. That says a lot. As far as infinite velocity, that's what's saving it from being worse for me. You must be in the camp of people that Jeri Taylor was talking about when she said,"Half the hate mail on that episode were people upset that we didn't tell them the Warp numbers changed after TOS." It was a concept I'd been intrigued about for 3 years having read it in the Star Trek Encyclopedia. I was both stoked when they brought the concept up, and let down by the end, but the concept is pretty amazing, and it's too bad we didn't get an awesome visual effect to convey occupying all points in space simultaneously.

706: TNG: Identity Crisis. It's not great by any means, but I found it decently enjoyable on first watch. To me, it's not a bad episode, but a filler one. As you said, the lighting is quite good. A 4/10 episode. (in my ratings file, the comment is "bland and boring")
705: ENT: Extinction. One of those times were Trek self-plagiarised. ENT did that more than other series, but TNG did it first (Naked Now) and DS9+VOY did as well.
It's the same premise as above, I think it's handled more clumsily than Identity Crisis. A 3/10 episode.
704: VOY: Threshold. Terrible in all respects. Bottom 10 episode for me, maybe even bottom 5.
703: TOS: The Lights of Zetar: A complete mess of an episode. I'd put it lower on the list.
702: TNG: Home Soil. Another one that I actually like. It's a fine episode, in my opinion, that fits the "finding new life" premise very well. Dialogue isn't always on point, but I find the episode quite good. 7/10.
701: TNG: Manhunt. No real plot, but some funny moments (“I still say they'd look better in sauce”). Overall, quite bad indeed.
700: TOS: The Deadly Years. Another that is more meh than actually bad. This time, the self-plagiarisation (in TNG: Unnatural Selection) was better than the original, which is uncommon.
Then again, in this instance, though they re-use the premise, they go in a very different direction.
699: TNG: Too Short a Season. Same deal, it's not good, but it's not that bad either.
Certainly the best scene in the whole episode. And as I mentioned in the video, some excellent videography and scene setting that you just don't see in 90's broadcast television, but it just suffers hard from the crew not setting containment protocols to people they knew to be at risk of fleeing. While we're at it though, here's some more controversial episodes for the board to tell me I've made mistakes about!
I don't have any major disagreements with this batch. I'd say We'll Always Have Paris, Conspiracy, and The Changeling are mediocre episodes, while the rest are quite bad - I probably would have rated them lower.

So true. Just have Picard tell Geordi that he'd like Data to assist him with his investigation, and visually monitor him as well. Problem prevented.
It's been a few months, but I've finally gotten around to a Reranks video, and given everyone here credit, because this was where the early episodes were talked about more than any other. I took some(but not all) of your suggestions to heart. A couple of episodes moved up more than 100 in the ranks, because I was just plain wrong in retrospect. Thanks to everyone who participated! Still bringing out episodes every week. I'm always happy to listen to fans and change my mind.

It's a good episode.
It did give us Leonard James Aka'ar. He was great in the Trial of Captain Kirk comics and the DS9 Litverse novels I've read.
That as well, at least for the comics I've read.
But, it is also illustrative of the Starfleet/Klingon tensions, including an officer immediately going for his weapon and Kirk wanting revenge. It helps fill out what will eventually happen in TUC. People act like that came out of nowhere but it really didn't. And this episode provides that world building.
I also appreciate McCoy throughout.
