The Sheliak
Right, there have already been a number of intelligent non-humanoids that we’ve seen. We've seen them...
The Legarans from “Sarek” that were going to sit in that fluorescent pool Data and Geordi were preparing.
We must see Denebian Slime Devils at some point. I believe there was an illustration in the book "Worlds of the Federation." But that isn't 'cannnnnnnnnnnnon.'

Numerous bits of Spock's backstory in the Kelvin movies and Disco come from TAS, and Discovery mentioned a "spider cow" which is what ate Boimler in the very first episode of the show.I haven’t talked/read about this before. How do we know it’s/they’re canon?
Which one?It helps that one of the writers of the show has written several STAR TREK novels.
Also the Borg. Not a huge retcon there, just the inclusion of more assimilated non-humanoids. And the Frankenstein patchwork of the parts from multiple individuals into grotesque drone abominations.
The Borg Centipede? The Shatnerverse books did this. One was an assimilated dog I remember, and another was this train of I think three drones connected at their chests but only the one in the front still had its head.
Which species would be worth retconning? A species which we have reason to think may have future interactions with the Federation.Hmmm okay, what about reconning then? What species would you change and how?
I’m thinking all the ones from “The Chase” are off limits. They’re humanoids. To the core.
Existing non-humanoid baddies:Which species would be worth retconning? A species which we have reason to think may have future interactions with the Federation.
An example-the Talarians. They have a border with the Federation, and have been in conflict with the Federation.
