Aliens We Haven’t Seen

Already mentioned, but the one I've been dying to see forever are the Jarada.

Interesting that Disco resdesigned the Xindi Insectoids this year to be another human in prosthetics, unlike the original fully CGI beings. If you wanted to put insectoid prosthetics on a human -- just fulfill my decades-long dream and call it a Jarada! :bolian::biggrin:

We must see Denebian Slime Devils at some point. I believe there was an illustration in the book "Worlds of the Federation." But that isn't 'cannnnnnnnnnnnon.'

If we count illustrations we've seen the Legarans and others.

Conceivably a dolphin like intelligence could live in the atmosphere of a gas giant.

Of course, as humans are native to a planet with a solid surface, we would have very little interaction.

Perhaps a bit more interaction with an aquatic species, but not much. You are probably thinking of the Xindi Aquatic. But perhaps an octopus like creature, or something analogous to air breathing cetaceans.

Anyway, people may have heard of aquatic or gas giant species, but seldom if ever encounter them.

(Don't know if an intelligent gas giant species is really possible, but we have dolphins as an example for intelligence in the sea).

I haven’t talked/read about this before. How do we know it’s/they’re canon?
Numerous bits of Spock's backstory in the Kelvin movies and Disco come from TAS, and Discovery mentioned a "spider cow" which is what ate Boimler in the very first episode of the show.

Ultimately though, Trek is picking and choosing from it's history more than ever. Details from novels and books are being brought up too, so ultimately it's canon because the powers that be say it is.

A species that would be easily retconnable are the Kobheerians. I think we only saw them maybe a couple of times, and neither was explicit. A Kobheerian freighter’s captain spoke to Sisko on the view screen, but he could have been a Dopterian working for the Kobheerians, and his look was largely a reuse of that makeup.

Also the Borg. Not a huge retcon there, just the inclusion of more assimilated non-humanoids. And the Frankenstein patchwork of the parts from multiple individuals into grotesque drone abominations.

The Shatnerverse books did this. One was an assimilated dog I remember, and another was this train of I think three drones connected at their chests but only the one in the front still had its head.

Also, slap some flesh and organs to the bulkheads of their cubes to suggest that their ships (a la 8472 or the Breen or the Cylons) too are alive.

They could always reveal that the original species (or group of species) that became the Borg were non-humanoid. After all, their original concept called for insectoid aliens.

^ That's true. They went with cyborgs because insectoids would have been too expensive at the time.

I don't think I'd want the Borg to be revealed to have been insectoids originally, though. All the Borg we saw are humanoid, so I think it makes more sense they are the result of a civilization going too far with humanoid-cybernetic augmentation.

The Borg Centipede? :ack:

Hmmm okay, what about reconning then? What species would you change and how?

I’m thinking all the ones from “The Chase” are off limits. They’re humanoids. To the core.
Which species would be worth retconning? A species which we have reason to think may have future interactions with the Federation.

An example-the Talarians. They have a border with the Federation, and have been in conflict with the Federation.

Existing non-humanoid baddies:
Kzinti
Tholians
Sheliak
Jarada
Tzenkethi

Retconnable:
Jem’Hadar
Borg
Breen?

The Breen could come along in any shape, wrapped in an encounter suit, and maybe this time we’d get to see what’s under it.

I’m hesitant on the Talarians because we saw them substantively in an episode, but I guess they’d be the best “controversial” ones to pick.
