Well, neither actor who played Cochrane had an opposable pinkie finger, either, nor a very high forehead, which were attributes suggested by the Goldsteins' "Star Trek Spaceflight Chronology" (1980), the source of the supposed Alpha Centaurian origin story mentioned above.

NOT true... I can say that with a high degree of confidence, since I knew of the "preserver seeding" parallel world on Alpha Centauri thing quite a few years before TMP...and this book was released shortly after TMP.

The inclusion of it in the book made it "more official" (as opposed to being pure fan-speculation) but the folks who did the book didn't INVENT the idea.
