Mileage varies of course, but for my money it's not so rare. Just so long as you discount all those awful "Unrated Cut!" releases that were so popular for a time.

When DVDs were selling like hot cakes, it was common for the studio to put back a couple deleted scenes (whether they were needed or not) so they could sell another cut of the movie.

Actually, it is said that there is another Alien movie in the preparation phase besides Romulus. This could be Romulus 2. Apart from this, it would be nice if the sequel to Covenant was made into a 6-episode FX mini-series with Ridley Scott writing and directing each episode, starring Michael Fassbender, and the story ended.

I've been googling for 10 minutes, because I'm 99% sure both directors commented on both of them making a movie. And I'm pretty sure I also posted that link earlier in this thread.

ridley scott alien romulus also producer there mentioned romulus 2.

The Narcissus is in the movie, Ripley was gone for so long because they captured her! (Confirmed by the director, who reasoned if they find the remains of the Nostromo, they can certainly find an escape shuttle with a beacon)

And then it is seen being ejected at the end of the movie. Fede's reasoning is stupid IMO. Ripley's shuttle being lost in space for 57 years makes more sense than it being lost right next to an occupied world for 37 years.

In my mind, that's just another Narcissus-type vehicle, and I hope the next movie doesn't make that head canon impossible. ;)

And while we're on it, why/how was the Alien right next to big chunks of Nostromo wreckage anyway? The Narcissus escaped the explosion of the Nostromo, which then went off like a mofo. And then the Alien was ejected into space.

And somehow the Alien and the wreckage came to a stop at exactly the same place?

In Prometheus, there were Xenomorph images on the walls of the engineers' planet. David probably didn't create the Xenomorph.

So the story there is not completely ignored.
Earlier scripts of Covenant (as well as the novelization, and, IIRC, the production-art tie-in) were explicit that David was trying to recreate an existing creature (I think of it as trying to breed a wolf from dogs), but Scott decided to make it more ambiguous and imply David invented the Xenomorph in the final cut.

I vote the Cindy Brady theory. ''Maybe it was magic!''

New teaser for Noah Hawley’s ‘ALIEN: EARTH’Releasing this Summer on Hulu.

Out of all the cast members mentioned in the article, the only two I'm familiar with are Timothy Olyphant, and Essie Davis.

FYI, we do have a specific thread where we can discuss everything related to the Alien and Predator movies/shows.

I just watched this film finally and I really loved most of it...until most of the third act.

Even though I knew the film was probably heading in that direction the moment Kay mentioned her pregnancy, I absolutely did not want to see an xenomorph-human hybrid created in that manner and I kept hoping against hope that it wouldn't go in that direction. Yes, I know there's precedence for horrifying pregnancies in this franchise, from Alien 3 (and Alien: Resurrection? I honestly don't remember since I've only seen it once years ago) to Prometheus (and I'm one of the few people who loved that film), but in those they were a direct xenomorph incubation and David deliberately using Shaw as a guinea pig via the Engineer's DNA. This is different for me because Kay was already pregnant and then she injected herself with the genetically-modified DNA, which transformed her human fetus into that monstrosity. And the less said about the birthing sequence the better (and no, I'm not fond of the Prometheus sequence either).

I get this is a horror film and (again) there's precedence, but that was a couple bridges too far for me. And for what? Another big showdown that dragged out the third act? I found Rain and Andy's zero-g showdown far more thrilling and a far better note to end the film on than that horrible monstrosity. The only good thing that came out of that sequence was Rain dumping the cargo bed onto the planetary rings with the incredible backdrop of the space station still burning in the background.

I do find it ironic (and even a bit weird and gross) while reading this thread that I appear to be the only person to have an issue with this use of a pregnant woman and yet so many people are split on the usage of Ian Holm as Rook (along with a plethora of Alien Easter eggs, none of which bothered me). Honestly, aside from some of the initial in-the-light shots, I thought Holm's image and voice were effectively utilized and wonderfully creepy (especially the moments on the computer screens). My only issue with using him in this manner is how this continues the precedence of using CGI recreations of dead actors, but that's a debate for a different thread.

Putting all of that aside, what I did love about the film were Rain and Andy and their strong but tragic relationship. I greatly enjoyed seeing a human/synthetic family bond that stood the tests of bullying and even programming rewriting. Cailee Spaeny and especially David Jonsson were excellent in their roles (effectively a dual role for Jonsson) and I would love to see their characters again in whatever fashion that may take.

In the end, I loved the action sequences, the breathtaking cosmic scenery, the eerie atmosphere of the space station, and everything about Rain and Andy, but I ultimately can't say I love the film overall due to how Kay was used in the film to create an xenomorph-human hybrid. If I ever do watch it again, I'll probably stop after the zero-g sequence.

Why did Rain put Andy into cryo?
Presumably they can still be 'preserved' that way. Ash and Bishop also use cryo. (One could argue that Ash originally used cryo as he was masquerading as a human, but Bishop was not.)

We don't really know that much about either synth construction or how cryo works. Everything degrades with use, so if you can 'freeze' it for months on end to extend it's lifespan, why not?
