Alias

Count me in as another Alias fan! I'm currently in the process of re-watching on DVD again, at the moment about a third of the way through Season 3. I too loved the way Season 1 episodes in particular ended with a cliffhanger. Watching first-run on TV, that was quite aggravating having to wait a whole week to find out what happened next. On DVD, if you plan to watch only 1 episode, you may find yourself saying "okay, just one more" a few times before you finally call it a night! :D

Good show, but based on his guest spot i'd have to nominate Rick Gervais as one of the worst actors of all time.

He has improved somewhat since, thankfully.

Yeah, I couldn't figure out why a big deal was made about him guest-starring on Alias.

^ I guess because he did such a masterful and observant job of creating David Brent, people just assumed that talent would carry through to a broader type of acting.

Ricky Gervais was on Alias?! Clearly this was before I knew who he was. What episode and what was he?

Count me in as another fan of the first two seasons. But in my opinion, it jumped the shark at the end of S2.

By the way, I adored David Anders as Sark. He was a refreshing addition to an already stellar cast (which included the amazing Lena Olin, even!).

^ All five seasons are on sale at Amazon for $18.49-18.99.

I've been thinking about trying this show out. I'm a huge fan of La Femme Nikita and this strikes me as a bit of spiritual successor.

Yes, absolutley! I think a good industry-speak description for Alias mat be "Mission Impossible meets Nikita."

They got the old flair back in the final season , and I really enjoyed it. The finale was wonderful.

Hey thanks for bringing back some confidence. Perhaps I will get seasons 4 & 5.

I can't quite watch season 5 knowing that there will be stuff from season 4 that happened that I'll need to know about...

I'm a guy who purchases DVDs knowing I'll watch them at least 3 times. After I saw the pilot for Alias I knew I'd want to see it again at least 3 times in 10 years. It's the only TV show that I have any seasons on DVD.
I'm looking forward to ST:Enterprise on Blu-ray and may get some of the seasons when they come out. I just can't see myself really enjoying TOS in high definition watching it over and over without seeing the technical faults like zippers and errors that HD brings to TOS enough to purchase TOS on Blu-ray.

Hopefully we'll get something good with the similar-to-Alias show premise with
CW is making a pilot for remake of "La Femme Nikita".

I still haven't finished watching the entire series but I consider myself a fan. I never watched it when it was on air but then started about 2 years back with the DVDs.

Season 1 was just fantastic - it was that good. And I loved how convoluted it seemed to be becoming a double-double-agent? a double-double-double-agent? It really pays off while watching on DVD and like another poster said, you just can't stop after watching an episode. You have to go on to learn what happens next.

I believe that they never completely explained the x-years-later storyline (was it 3 years or 1 year or 2 year now..) It never became credible to me. And I stopped watching somewhere in the middle of season 4. Real life had happened and I couldn't watch it anymore and also (I think) that's the season where Jennifer Garner was pregnant and was ramping down on the action parts - and somehow the storyline stopped holding my interest.

Btw, the after superbowl episode had an absolutely va-va-voom opening. Not only does Jen look absolutely positively delectable in both outfits but I laughed out loud at the "What was wrong with the first one?". That's the kinda smart sexy writing/viewing that I want with my shows!

^Shame she started doing insipid rom-coms instead of more serious roles. The majority of the time, when she had a fight scene it was all her.

That's one of the things I like about Elektra. Sure, it's a silly movie, but unlike the Daredevil movie it spun off of, it actually features Garner and its other lead actors doing their own martial-arts stunts and doing them impressively well, rather than having badly computer-animated doubles doing it for them.

Muchas gracias, Gary Mitchell.

I remember watching the jj abrams commentary on it too where he admitted to the gratuitous nature in pulling in the viewers but still doing it with a fun twist.

Re Elektra - I kinda liked Elektra - They should have made it bigger tho'. If you're going to do superhero stuff - let it be "big". And it shouldn't have been about her being "nurturing" to that teenager - She's too young to play mother to a teenager. Also - you don't want the main hero to be the wise guiding sage. That's the hero's teacher stereotype. (Or heroine).

my favourite is when she parachutes into the garden of some fancy party and then peels off her jump suit to reveal a slinky gown. quick change of shoes and she's away.

better than Bond in a wet suit.

ELEKTRA tends to get a bad rap. It's not a bad little movie; it just feels more like a modest tv-movie than a major summer blockbuster.

It's certainly not an embarrassment like CATWOMAN.

I like Elektra because of the martial-arts action and because of Rob Bowman's very stylish direction. There are some compelling visuals in it. The story doesn't make a lick of sense, though.
