Frankly, I find the interiors (except for the bridge) harder to explain then the exterior (not counting the flip-flop between the DSC and the TOS pilot configurations

The bottom drawing is not accurate to the actual CGI model, nor is it the right size. The DSC Enterprise is larger.
The shape is different, which means the proportional sizes don't match at all, particularly height.Yeah, come to think of it, it doesn't quite look like the screencaps.
As far as the size goes, I took it to be that they were scaled to the same size for comparison purposes of the designs, not for exact size comparisons. That said, it's my understanding that the displays on DSC use the classic TOS Enterprise's dimensions, indicating that the ships are supposed to be the same size and that the DSC being larger is artistic license. (It's hardly the first time that ship sizes vary from installment to installment, not to mention that logic dictates that the DSC Enterprise must be the same size as the TOS one for them to be one and the same.
No real surprises here.![]()

Plus I think this graphic is only visible in BTS photos.
but I guess I think that the DSC Enterprise is about the same size as the TOS one
You can see part of it on Stamets' console in the final episode.Plus I think this graphic is only visible in BTS photos.
The official length from CBS is 442.06 Meters, that's the number they gave to both Star Trek Online and Eaglemoss.
I'm guessing that the graphic artist was told to make an info screen for the Enterprise, but wasn't given any actual info from the production to put on it, so they just took it all from the Franz Joseph tech manual.
The TOS Connie's size was never canon (or consistent), that's how.But how could the ship be such different sizes in different eras?
All of this canon headache could've simply been resolved by establishing DISCO was a prequel to JJTrek.Your imagination stretches far more than mine. The exteriors, I can see to an extent. The interiors, not so much.
I don't subscribe to the idea of the Enterprise switching back and forth between the DSC and TOS design. Which, I agree with you, is totally ridiculous. In the DSC Forum, I had to go out of my way to not respond to someone who was trying to push really hard that he thought the ship switched back and forth between the two looks. I'm not one of those people who thinks that. I couldn't even respond to that because I thought it was such a stupid idea.
As far as I'm concerned: In DSC, the Enterprise never looked like it did in TOS and never will. And in TOS, the Enterprise never looked like it did in DSC. I treat DSC and TOS as different visual depictions of the same story being told.
Except the plot doesn't follow at all? The Enterprise is brand new in ST'09. There has never been a Klingon war in Into Darkness. All of this canon headache could've simply been resolved by establishing DISCO was a prequel to JJTrek.
What a mess. Either Discovery is a reboot or it isn't or the producers don't care about these things (turbolift funhouse). I wish they'd quit fucking with us.Obligatory repost of the recent Eaglemoss tech book depicting both versions of the Enterprise at their different sizes like it's nothing at all

They do care, just not in the same way the minority of fans do.What a mess. Either Discovery is a reboot or it isn't or the producers don't care about these things (turbolift funhouse). I wish they'd quit fucking with us.

I wish they'd just have set it in the far future in the first place. This is what a lot of fans wanted and it would have avoided all sorts of problems.Let’s clarify things: it’s CBS that doesn’t care (or at least, only cares that their show not be confused with the Kelvin timeline movies.) The producers of DSC care, but either they can’t seem to get it “right” enough to please the fans of this BBS, or they’ve decided to throw up their arms in defeat and ‘reboot’ the show into the far future so that they don’t have to worry about canon anymore (although how that’s going to affect the Section 31 show is a mystery to me.)
What problems would have it created? And would have created lots of other problems.
