Alex Kurtzman Gets New Deal With CBS, Will Expand 'Star Trek' TV

This is good news. More Trek is better.

I have enjoyed all the TV series' and movies (to a varying degree & with some cringeworthy moments to be sure).

But the two things that bugged me the most (before the JJ verse) were the Enterprise finale and the TNG cast going out on Nemesis. Both deserved better.

Hopefully we can rectify one of those.

I'm neither pessimistic nor optimistic. I'm no longer particularly invested emotionally, and I really do think that all of this nonsense deserves to be a subject for laughter and ridicule. It's just commerce empty of value - the manufacture of disposable entertainment as yard goods.

Really, if one can't get a punchline out of the current state of Star Trek it's not good for much at all.

Move on, then.

Ahh, so you're saying it's time for the long-clamored for return of Enterprise?

They’re adapting the Destiny books ;)
I wish.
By the sound of it they’re avoiding the saturation issue by putting out different products.

Picard series has a different appeal to an academy series full of teens, likewise an animated series. The other two are looking to be mini series too.

Have to say though, Academy series doesn’t inspire me. What’s life like for over-achieving teens living in a permissive diverse society with no real problems? Don’t care.
I'm not really disagreeing with you, but I do have to say that my all-time favorite Star Trek comic series was the Starfleet Academy series starring Nog.
When I was in high school, there was a Marvel Comics Star Trek series called Starfleet Academy that I used to read. If they did a show along those lines, I'd really look forward to that.
And I see that I'm not alone in my love for that series.:techman:

Two words: Fuck That.
I can't wait to see all of us Discovery haters divide into factions based on what we actually want to see in Discovery's place.

'cause Manny Coto: Fuck yeah!

This, but unironically.

Just give us a six-episode miniseries that none of y'all ENT haters have to watch.

TNG and VOY were never on at the same time. DS9 ran alongside them, but it was a very different show structurally from either, being station-based. Plus Voyager was in the Delta Quadrant, meaning a totally different backdrop (in theory). It would be more like if TNG decided to introduce Voyager concurrent with Season 5, but have it take place in the Alpha Quadrant. New crew, but same setting, time period, and structure as TNG. You don't see why that's a problem?

You could do that with absolutely any new Trek show however. It doesn't have to be a Pike show.

That's a huge problem like Arrow and Flash and Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl. They would be forced to have cross over episodes and nobody would watch and they would all be cancelled in a season.

It is the cheapest, easiest way to keep Trek on for 7+ months each year.

With that many shows, I hope that I actually enjoy one of them. I'm not holding my breath given that the creator of DISCO is in charge of the whole kit and caboodle though but hopefully they won't all follow the same pattern laid out by the first show.

Normally, I'm not a fan of ENT but -- under the circumstances -- what the heck? Bring on Manny Coto. Coto for the win! Let's do it.

This is mostly bad news. Kurtzman is terrible.

Teen oriented? No thanks.

A cartoon? Who cares.
Novel idea: maybe you think this is bad because you're not the target audience for these? Not every iteration of Trek has to cater to the same core audience. If the franchise is to survive, it has to diversify and bring in younger viewers. Otherwise, Star Trek dies with its existing fans.
