I misread the thread title. I thought there was going to be a mention of season 2 for short treks. What is the deal with that anyway? Are there going to be different seasons of short treks or was that a one time thing?

I think it's a great concept and there will be more. Hopefully they won't restrict it to Discovery or Picard related stories only. Let the writers tell any Trek stories they want. Of course there will be budgetary restrictions (want to use existing sets, etc), so a short Trek set on DS9 is probably not possible.

Maybe, if Season 3 doesn't air until September 2020. It probably depends how big the gap between Picard S1 and DSC S3 is.

It’s not that confusing. In The Cage (prior to this season in continuity), Spock is less mature than in TOS (after this season in continuity). So this in between period is exactly as stated: a previously unseen level of maturity. Nowhere is it suggested that DSC Spock will be more mature than we’ve ever seen, nor less mature. It will be a degree of maturity we’ve not yet seen.

Don’t be disingenuous.

He will not be more mature than we’ve ever seen nor less mature than we’ve ever seen. Your original comment clearly intended to criticize Kurtzman for something he didn’t actually argue (hardly surprising given your general attitude towards the show). All he said was the character would display a level of maturity we have yet to see—entirely reasonable statement given the story takes place in a period unexplored between a younger and older iteration of the character. Obviously Spock will appear more or less mature in relation to previous versions. But you already knew that.

SPOCK WILL GO FROM TALKING IN ALL CAPITALS LIKE WOLF BLITZER ON CNN to talking more like a regular person and not smiling.

That's the transition Spock will have to go through FROM BEING SPOCK FROM "THE CAGE" to being Spock from rest of the original series.

Though it won't be a complete transition. Spock has some words to say about this in "Where No Man Has Gone Before". What do you have to say Mr. Spock? "DAMAGE CONTROL REPORTS ALL STATIONS!"

He won’t be less mature then in “The Cage”, but won’t be more more then what was seen in “TOS”. He’ll be somewhere in the middle.

Speculating... I think it's uncertain what level of maturity he will be in given his state of confusion. He could be a complete mess.

Well I'm still speculating and gleaning... but quite possibly like most twenty-somethings experience I wonder if the hints about spirituality and religion being themed with science might play out within Spock himself. It's not a bad concept to have someone so logical having a spiritual 'awakening' or the opposite, someone religious discovering an appreciation for science.

The line about a "previously unseen level of maturity" is not a quote from Kurtzman. That's from the Trekcore writer who put together the article. I would agree it's a bad line. Overly literal in a way that is not helpful.
