I can't even remember how young I was when I was first introduced to Asterix. It's like he's been around all my life. I'm glad I also found his other works, like "Oumpah-pah".

Asterix was a big part of my life, growing up. I have a huge stack of Asterix books and I still read them. Sadly, the sucky Canadian-published editions are starting to fall apart because they were so poorly put together. My brother, who got a degree in French, has an even bigger stack, all in French, of course. lol.

I loved Asterix as a kid, reading the books I checked out from the library along with Tintin albums. As I grew older, I became a bigger fan of Tintin over Asterix but I'll always have fondness for Asterix from my childhood.

Rest in peace, Albert Uderzo.

I never had any of the books but, I had seen some of the individual pieces and they always reminded me that humor can transcend language.

Yeah...read all of those Asterix, Tintin, Oumpah-pah, Spirou et Fantasio, Valerian and Laureline, Yoko Tsuno, The Smurfs, Corto Maltese, Gaston Lagaffe, Alix, Moebius(Jean Giraud), Jodorowsky...and so on!!! Most of all these brilliant artists are gone now.....but I read just as many European comics as I read books....still have a few of my old old ones....but most have since perished to wear and tear....

American comics legend Bill Sienkiewicz tweeted some nice tribute art to Uderzo. The first one is a mash-up of Uderzo's Asterix onto a painting by Frank Frazetta which he did a while ago (I think, not sure), while the second one is a new one specifically in tribute of Uderzo's passing.
