Alan Rickman dies at 69

God dammit. What a shitty week this has been. Has anybody checked on Tim Curry? In all seriousness I just watched him on tv in a movie called Blow Dry where he played a washed up hairdresser pitted against Bill Nighly and thinking about how he was able to do both comedy and drama equally well. RIP Mr. Rickman.

So sad. I was just watching Love Actually over the holidays and thinking about how he has played some really great, complicated, appealing characters, even when he's playing a villain. I really did like him.

One of my favourites :(

And one of my favourite roles of his is from the HBO movie 'Something The Lord Made', playing a surgeon performing the first heart surgery.

And a few weeks ago, I had watched A Little Chaos in which he plays King Louis XIV.

I to this day love his performances in 'Die Hard', 'Dogma', and 'Galaxy Quest'. I know some me feel 69 is 'old' - but IMO, it's sad he lost his battle with cancer and went (IMO) a number of years too early.

R.I.P. Alan. You will be missed and thank you for the decades of entertainment you shared with the world.

Saturday evening is already booked:

It may not have been all that well known internationally, but one role of his which stood out over in Ireland was as Éamon de Valera in the 1996 movie Michael Collins.

Hard to imagine it's been two decades since that movie came out - and in the midst of the then-faltering Northern Ireland peace process, to boot.

Rest well and thank you Mr. Rickman.

...as for you Universe...enough of this silliness. You can leave the nice ones alone for a bit...go take Ted Nugent or Dick Cheney.

RIP, Sir. Condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time.

Great in anything I remember seeing him in, absolutely STOLE the show as the Sherrif of Nottingham in "Prince of Thieves", a movie I could watch again and again, despite it having Kevin Costner in it!

And although it was probably done before his role as Hans Gruber in "Die Hard", you feel he started the trend of casting British actors as the villain in action movies!

Truly sad news, and a sad few weeks in the entertainment industry.

Brian Bedford (the voice of the animated/fox version of Robin Hood) died too. The new movie coming out this year "Zootopia" was inspired by it, and him.

What is going on with this stupid year. :(

About Tim Curry: Wiki says he is recovering, in good spirits, and can speak. He is in physical therapy but does have to use a wheelchair though.

That he's managed three years since such a severe one is a good sign in itself, I'm sure he'll see his 70's. But this damn year is making me nervous.

Awful news to wake up to.

Just ridiculously good in everything. Funny (who knew the word "obviously" could be so funny?), dramatic, anything and everything in between. Incredibly talented and from all accounts an even better person.

RIP, and thanks for the memories.
