Akiraprise Question? Why?

I'm a hardcore TOS fan and I don't really mind the NX-01 looking Akira-esque.
I don't either. I think my biggest complaint about the ship is that it looks spiffier, shinier and more high tech on the outside than the NCC-1701. Errr ... that is until the Mirror Universe where suddenly the NCC-1701 dwarfs the NX-01.

Because only hardcore Trek fans know or care what an Akira class ship is.

The rest don't know or care and simply accept the NX-01 for what it was, a cool looking Trek ship.
Yep.

when I registered here, one of the first threads on the top page was about this argument, and I thought it was the most stupid thing I'd ever seen online (No, I hadn't been online for very long and I don't think 4chan existed in 2003 ;) )

The NX-Class is a cool looking ship, though it was definitely out of time. It looks like some sort of frigate/scout from the 24th century.

If the creators used a different kind of ship that would be better suited to the time, ratings would have been even less than they were as the ship would have been plain ugly.

Another possible theory to the shape of it is when the Enterprise-E went to 2063 in First Contact, Zefram Cochrane got to see what she looked like, and from memory tried to recreate it, thus distorting the timeline.

Arguing about whether the Enterprise resembled another ship that appeared on-screen for two seconds is a reason why Trek fans are made fun of.

Hardcore Trek fans are your base audience.

They should be the ones that producers strive to satisfy first.

the kind of hard core that cares about that kind of thing probably are about a thousand of so.
i have heard from so many people who have been trek fans who wondered just what was akiraprise and why all the fuss.

You will have to count me in that group. I post on ST forums, I have all the DVD's except Voyager, and I have no idea what akiraprise is or why the fuss.

My guess is when you are creating a show on a budget, use any previous work you can that is not too obvious and stretch out those "effects budget" dollars.

of course the fun rethink is that the akira class was deliberatly based on archers enterprise due to her role in saving earth from an earlier threat while earth /federation was facing the borg threat.

The Akira class was the most detailed of the four CGI models created for Star Trek: First Contact and would go on to be seen in at least 24 episodes of DS9 & Voyager.

So f&cking what, though?

All StarFleet Starship designs also bear a passing resemblence to a certain ship seen in 79 episodes of TOS.

an awful lot of fans still didnt remember that much about it.

there are just some things important to a sub set of fans.

The NX-01 was alright.
Kirk's ship was smooth on the outside. The NX-01 hull pattern reflected that of ships after the 1701. I consider that a minor detail. A major detail would be sickbay. Phlox's sickbay was better than any of the other sickbays including Voyager's and the Enterprise-D. I always thought they should've put in an old style spray bottle like McCoy had in his sickbay.

I liked the NX-01. Could they have made a different design... sure
But I would rather think of it along Pookha's way of thinking... The Akira class was made to resemble Archer's ship :)
