AIO Printers Compatible with Windows Vista?

People:

I figured I'd give this question a shot here, since all of you visiting this forum are pretty sharp, and me, I'm just a dabbler when it comes to computer equipment.

I bought a laptop which runs on Windows Vista and managed to hook up my old Dell All-In-One Printer after having to download the drivers from Dell's site. Problem is, it's missing the fax software. Calls to Dell were of no use.

I have had the printer for four years and it has started to jam up more frequently, so I think it's time to replace it. Does anyone here know which all-in-one inkjet printers, with fax capability, selling for under $100, are compatible with Windows Vista? I've searched NewEgg.com and haven't found any printers yet that explicilty say they are compatible with Vista.

Let me add that after looking more carefully, I have found a few AIO printers that are compatible with Vista. However, one frustrating thing is the product descriptions I'm finding don't say if they can fax documents.

So, if anyone has recommendations, I'd love to hear them.

Thanks for your help in advance.

pretty much any AIO printer on the market today is vista compatible. I would look into either a HP photosmart or officejet, or if you are looking for a cheap printer, look for a Brother, as they all have fax capabilities

Ryan: Hey, thanks for the advice. I knew I'd get some answers here. Ciao! -- RR

I recently bought a new Dell XPS 420 computer running Vista along with a new Dell 968 AIO printer. Works just fine. Ran $75 after an instant 50% discount that Dell was running at the time. Printers are cheap...the ink is where they getcha.

I haven't set up the fax software yet as I don't have a dedicated fax line and it would always automatically pick up after so many rings, and you'd get that fax sound on the line when you're trying to talk to someone.

Oh, I almost forgot...I had to install the software myself as the factory apparently forgot to. 'Cause I kept looking around for the AIO Center, and any indication of the printer in the programs folders and stuff, but couldn't find any. Then it dawned on me that they had forgotten to install the software. Stuck the disc in, installed the software and whalla...oh and upon doing so, it apparently fixed something that detected my Internet connection through a game's launcher window.

Dell are sometimes funny - I got a free copy of Works Suite with a Dell Laptop once, go figure!

Dells can be problematic, and their customer service is lacking. It's why I went a different route when I bought a Toshib laptop -- cheaper than all Dell laptops, and highly rated by Consumer Reports. Have had it for a year and I'm much more pleased with it than I was with my old Dell desktop. -- RR

Well, after seeing your answers here and in another thread, then doing some Consumer Reports research, I settled on a Canon Pixma MX300, which has all the functions I wanted, including the ability to fax. I ordered it online and should get it by next week. I'll update you on it after I hook it up and use it a bit. -- RR

I expect you will be very pleased - I have regualr contact with two Pixma's (my MP610 at home and an IP90 at work) and both are superb machines.
