Oooh, wait... I think I've got it...
Old Kirk and Spock have one last touching exchange after Spock returns to the future, then we pan up to a starfield or something, and we get a last few moments with the young crew on the bridge where Kirk and Spock have the same exchange for the first time. T h e n the fanfare swells, departing Enerprise ship shot and roll credits. That way the handoff is complete, the connection is made and the new Kirk is firmly in charge.

Third: Would there be time for Shatner to have a part? I would think his Boston Legal schedule would keep him busy since ST:11 will be filming during or about the same time as BL. I suppose if something happens to Denny Crane to make his character incognito for a few weeks that might be our best clue as to a Shat as Kirk situation.

Second: I agree, as much as we may call foul on his Generations death he did go out fighting. I'm not sure I want a 24th century Kirk just sitting idle in his senior years.

More than that. He died on the Bridge, like a Captain should.

Kirk was given the worst ending/death of any major fictional character ever.

If Hercules is so sure of this story, why has he only posted it in a talkback thread, as oppose to the main news page of AICN?

Why would anyone announce anything "official" about a surprise ending?
