AICN claims Shatner is in Star Trek XI

Longtime AICN contributor H.T. Strong a.k.a. Hercules is claiming to have inside knowledge that William Shatner is in Star Trek XI.

Herc, in a brief post cautioned everyone not to believe the hype about Shatner not being in Star Trek XI.

He went as far as to say "all the hype about Shatner not playing old Kirk in ST XI is a lie"

AICN was the first to break the story about the plotline. I think he might be onto something here. AICN seems to have moles all over this film.

ps: It's good to be back. Haven't been here in a long time.

Shat can pull it off.

Sure he won't be doing flying drop kicks, rather he will be playing a 70 year old version of his character in what most likely will be a cameo at the end of the film.

I hope Herc is right.

I don't know if I want my childhood hero to make a "quaint 'n' charming" appearance at the end of the film...

I'm envisioning some sort of changed timeline where Kirk is dead when Spock leaves for the past and due to some action of Spock's alive and waiting to greet him when he returns... and one last shared moment of warmth between the two characters... one last "...Jim."

I don't deny it could be quite touching, but I don't know if I want that to be my last memory of Shatner as Kirk. His death in Generations may have been lame, but at least he died "in action."

I am skeptical that the rumor is true, and I just don't know how I feel about it if it turns out to be true.

Plus the freaking theater is going to go all nuts screaming and I won't be able to hear their final exchange anyway. Then the fanfare will come up, the credits will roll and I'll have to see the damned thing again.

Like I wouldn't have done that anyway... ;)

The ending you are suggesting is exactly what ST and Kirk need.

Kirk was given the worst ending/death of any major fictional character ever.

That "lame ending" should be fixed.

I suppose I'm ambivalent about Shatner being in the film or not... my only fear is that the "trekkie" stigma might keep audiences away. Unless the Shat is so cool now on Boston Legal as to neutralize that danger. I'd prefer no attempt at show-stealing, though. The new crew has to be front and center, or Trek has no future.

I'm going to get my Boston Legal-style ending!

with Kirk and Spock on lawn Chairs on a balcony smoking cigars and talking about woman and bastard fathers

or Shatner says "Denny Crane" at the very end and then cue the star trek theme :D

Oooh, wait... I think I've got it...

Old Kirk and Spock have one last touching exchange after Spock returns to the future, then we pan up to a starfield or something, and we get a last few moments with the young crew on the bridge where Kirk and Spock have the same exchange for the first time. T h e n the fanfare swells, departing Enerprise ship shot and roll credits. That way the handoff is complete, the connection is made and the new Kirk is firmly in charge.

OR.....the film can end with cameos from Nimoy and Shatner...only to pave way for another film that starts mainly the two of them!!! Kirk and Spock in the 24th century!!!

Trekweb.com has now picked up the story that Shatner is back in Star Trek.

Gustavo is reporting the same story that I posted a few hours ago.

If true, this is the biggest Star Trek news since TMP hit the big screen in 1979.
Trekweb reporting that AICN is reporting... not exactly confirmation. I'll wait for the final word from PTM at Trekmovie.com or confirmation in the trades... and I hardly think a last hurrah by The Shat is "the biggest Star Trek news since TMP hit the screen in 1979." This recast is pretty big news, but a surprise cameo by big fat Shat is just not the pivot point of all Trek. It's just not.

Think about it, though. Who knew we'd actually make it to at least Trek XI? :D

Yeah, it's weird... I'm a life-long fan of something that has eras.
