You can still see her wearing red in the shot where Burnham leaves the turbolift.
The blue in the other shots was digitally changed.
I've only had time to watch it once so far -- thanks for that.
I don't know why they didn't leave it as red for now; it would fit with the current situation and they could always explain any subsequent changes at the start of next season!
That was my guess.
As for the colors in another thread I speculated that they might be going for a TOS films format for the divisions.
Red-Commanding officer
Yellow- Operations including helm.
Blue-Sciences
White-Medical
Black- Security (based on Willa)
Yeah, it seems something like that...! Willa and her team earlier in the season were definitely wearing black so it would seem reasonable that they have split off the security (+/- Tactical) element and given them their own colour.
At least Culber is now wearing the same uniform as everyone else but with an appropriate division colour. I didn't mind the all-white but, like McCoy in the various movies, I always felt that should have been his "clinical" uniform, with him reverting to blue/silver at other times.
I still think in time they'll realise that the light grey is too featureless and bland for main cast (as is the bloody new combadge from any distance!) so I would not be at all surprised if this uniform "evolves" quite quickly going forward -- or if they do something like turning this into a more formal uniform and put the cast in a bunch of other variant uniforms for most of the time.
If you need to plaster the four-pip motif all over the place and add the black shoulder straps just to make your captain stand out then the uniform and badge design was probably poorly thought through in the first place...!
I've only just noticed that the shirts are asymmetrical on the bottom which almost makes them look like as if they were misbuttoned. I've never had a problem with the collars and the zippers on the blues (I'm in a minority with that, I know), but this really bugs me for some reason.
Yeah, it bugs me too. The collar and zip on the original Disco blues actually didn't bother me that much but this is just really, really annoying. It's one of those design features that's "just for the sake of it" and it's very, very irritating!
It also looks very wrong when Vance's uniform is very much symmetrical. I also really dislike the very different styling between the admiral uniform and the "standard" uniform. The one-piece version with the coloured shoulders / sleeves (like Willa, but there were others) actually works far better with Vance's uniform and does at least make sense. I don't know why they didn't carry the sleeves /shoulder feature of Vance's uniform into the rest of them. It's a MUCH better design!
