Agony Booth takes it´s shoot on "A Night In Sickbay"

But after reading the Agonybooth article about this episode the webmaster chose to review, it doesn't sound like a show I'd be ravenously interested in seeing anyways.

You've never seen an ep and you judge the series based on some person's personal distaste? Give ENT a shot -- actually watch some episodes from each season and then decide whether or not you're a fan. You might be pleasantly surprised :)

And ST_Intergalactic, there are several moments I thought were hilarious in ANIS. It's not total garbage, but it's not the best ENT ep

Well I just finished reading through an 8-page rant that can easily be summed up in one simple sentence; "I don't like Enterprise". Not only does he start by focusing on the bad points of the show in a whole despite the intended rant being about that specific episode, he has the audacity to complain about Jolene Blalock's acting abilities and appearance (despite the terrible wig, she is a beautiful actress) because of his personal preference towards Hoshi/Linda Park, which, according to him, is the obvious sex appeal for the show. If he's intended to look for sex appeal, there's lots of porn to keep him busy furiously masturbating to lone nights alone while writing an epic for an hour-long episode.

That's not to say I didn't agree with some of his points. I for one hated this episode; Archer was the total opposite of everything being a captain stands for; the priority of his dog possibly dying over the safety of the crew, the respect they might have held for him as he bitched to everyone, and the traditions/customs of an alien species which, as far as their mission goes, they should welcome as part of their peaceful contact with them. And that's all before they mix it all up with sexual tension, the hijinks of Dr. Phlox, and just a bunch of random scenes to fill up the hour mark. But I love Enterprise; one bad apple doesn't spoil the bunch.

New poster btw. : D

The only scene I actually enjoyed is when T'Pol tells Archer off while they're on the treadmills.

That's the point of the website! Not ragging on Enterprise, that is, but delving into stuff they think is terrible and riffing all over it. Why do you think it's called the Agony Booth?

Because it's agony to read his rants? D:

Just that I'm not a big fan of these wannabe critics who think they're incredibly funny and loved by everyone. Half of his reasons for that episode being bad can easily be countered, but I agree with him that it's a bad episode. Maybe not a bad enough episode to write a novel about it, but still bad. :p

He's a fan of the other series that he does episodes on there for, but he treated them all equally when it came to their weak points. Just read the other recaps. I don't entirely agree with him on everything either, but his recaps are hardly just rants. There's a reason it's called "The Worst of Trek".

I'd just like to say hello. I've recently joined these boards so be gentle with me. That said I've never watched a single episode of Enterprise in my life. I kinda stopped watching Trek after TNG left the airwaves so I've basically stuck with TOS and TNG throughout the decades. But after reading the Agonybooth article about this episode the webmaster chose to review, it doesn't sound like a show I'd be ravenously interested in seeing anyways. Just from the plot breakdown I, an amateur, could come up with a much better take that would not have been so...shall we say cringe worthy. I think Enterprise should have worked as a series, but when Berman is involved promising premises tend to tarnish.

Well, give it a watch before judging it. But don't start with ANIS. :p

You can't say this rant is on equal par with another for he obviously dislikes Enterprise, and to write a critical review over one bad episode will be full of bias. He focuses on the bad and doesn't look for the good, and that can sway potential viewers from actually watching the show; one person in this post thinks it will be a bad series of Trek by this review of his.

If he spent more time focusing on the episode as an episode rather than the series as a whole, I might take him more seriously. :p

Ah, AgonyBooth, the site that celebrates CRAP! I love that site.

I don't usually post here, but I read their review and was curious about the fan reaction here. I thought it was very funny, and confirms my belief that I missed nothing by missing most of ENT season 2. (I found s1 & s3 boring, but thought s4 was pretty fun)

The whole point of the web site is to review really bad movies & eps, the AB folks love to watch CRAP, that's the whole point! Unfortunatly there are always fans who can't laugh about it, I'm sure even Deafula has a fan club.

The point is that he's not supposed to be taken that seriously. It's also not going to be covering too much of what's good because it's all about the Worst of Trek. He also only does two episodes out of each series. I'd actually suggest that you read the other recaps hes done. I mean, it's pretty obvious that he likes DS9, but she still tore into Profit and Lace and Let He Who is Without Sin... just as much as he tore into ANiS.

Things have been moved around and are still being worked on. The Guardian of Forever is on the same host and I'll make an announcement there when everything is back up. ;)

Worse, what if there's an Overlords of the UFO fan club?:eek::eek:

My biggest gripe with the ANIS review is that he spends more time being analytical and less being just snarky than a lot of his others. I suppose that's why some are reading it as a rant. But if folks think this is mean, they really need to read some of this others....

(EDIT: New "eek" emoticons? Blech. I liked the old ones a lot better.)

Oh man, Overlords of the UFO was comedy gold!

Who ARE the Overlords of the UFO? You're asking me?

Isn't Agony Booth affiliated with Riff-Tracks or something? Part of the problem with this review is that he unloads a pile of Ye Olde rhetoric before getting to the recap. I can understand how that might annoy fans. Most of the stuff he reviews is more so-bad-it's-good...no, it's still bad, but fun to laugh at. ANIS is (I'm guessing) a Berman Komedy, and komedy is hard to laugh at, ironically.

I dunno. Who are the Overloards of Star Trek? And are they here? Right now? At this time?

Yes, but only in the sense that they link to RiffTrax and get a commission if somebody buys a track through the link. Albert says somewhere on the site that ti's not like he gets to borrow Tom Servo for the weekend. :p

Pretty much. I don't want to turn into the ENT forum's TheMasterOfOrion, so I'll preface this by saying that there were several episodes of ENT I enjoyed in every season, and Archer owned in Silent Enemy, but...ANIS is shit. Pure, unadulterated shit. I had the displeasure of watching it first-run, and I remember being pummeled by the idiocy on display, searching vainly for rhyme or reason to the madness, only to wonder after it was over if I had hallucinated the whole episode. This review now confirms what I'd suspected: ANIS is the worst episode of any Trek series ever made. The other "worsts" had some redeeming camp value, but ANIS, as Albert says, seems to hate the people watching it. It's like a nightmare. It makes Nemesis look sane. How it escaped the Worst Episode of All Time poll in Gen. Trek is beyond me.

Now this is making me want to write a recap for the Agony Booth. I think Nemesis is still up for grabs...

Oh man, I loved that recap. It was cathartic, even after all those years, to read someone else ripping that horrid episode apart. It was THE moment I knew I wasn't going to be an Enterprise viewer for much longer.

It's funny because it's true. Yeah, it's more of a rant, but I like good rants.

It helps that I was watching a Dylan Moran stand-up DVD while reading it. It's a one-two punch of comedy gold.

He did go off on a rant about some areas of Enterprise that I don't agree with, but I think he hit the recap of the episode right on the nail.

I must be the only person alive who like ANIS. It's probably in my Top 20 favorite episodes of ENT.
I'm not sure I'd put it in my Top 20, because I never work out Top 20s for anything. I will say, however, that except for a couple of very painful "what were they thinking?"-type lapses in the writing, I enjoyed this ep a lot on the initial viewing and still think it's a very funny one.

On the Agony Booth review:

I guess I never really thought they were that funny, even years ago. Was there anything in this one which hasn't been said already, again and again? What, really, was the point?

One "Meh"
