Agents of SHIELD: Season 3 - Discussion (SPOILERS LIKELY)

Did they make any reference in-show about whether PB was playing the same character as he was in Avengers? I thought I saw some interview earlier indicating he was not.

I saw a later item saying that that first item was a misunderstanding, that he is indeed meant to be the same character. I think it's that he was billed under a different name, and some Internet reporter assumed that meant he was a different character, when in fact it's just that the character's given name wasn't established until now.

They haven't said so in-story yet, but the way his introduction was directed and cut -- keeping his face hidden for the first several moments, then doing a dramatic reveal shot and music sting -- was a pretty clear "Surprise, it's that guy!" moment. They wouldn't have directed it that way if he were meant to be a brand-new character.

Oh, I agree, it was odd that they did it that way. But apparently that's what they were going for, since there was no other reason to edit the scene in a way that suspensefully hid his face for the first few moments.

Speaking of reveals... ouch. Just when we were all (Coulson especially) starting to like Rosalind, we find this out. I wonder, is she an accomplice or a dupe?

All I can say is another good episode.

Right when they gave me something to almost complain about, the explanation not only answers my complaint, it seems perfectly logical. That's not something I can say often, hardly at all.

And then they pull the rug out on me again!

I doubt he's gone for good, but I agree the pace is very fast. Given the fast pace and the trailer for next week, I wouldn't be terribly shocked if the ATCU story was over by the mid-season break.

I doubt he's gone for good, but I agree the pace is very fast. Given the fast pace and the trailer for next week, I wouldn't be terribly shocked if the ATCU story was over by the mid-season break.

Well that is basically how it worked last year when they dealt with the Whitehall HYDRA/Diviner story for the first half, then did the Inhuman/Real Shield story for the second half.

So next half will probably focus on dealing with the alien planet.

Anyone else like to see Ward dealt with once and for all by the end of this season? If this show goes on for say 6 or 7 seasons, how long can they keep him going with his evil Hydra plans and always managing to escape etc style plots?


Also when that guy said about Daisy & Coulson forming a team, it made me think I'd completely forgotten about the Secret Warriors thing, to say a lot of the pre publicity about Season 3 seemed to focus on that. And now we're pretty much one third into the season and nothings really happening on that front.

This show continues to improve all the time.

I'm glad that the show has developed to the point it has so that stories and characters don't need to have prolonged arcs.
It does seem the show runners, as of last season, have adopted a 10-11 episode arc and essentially have two main A stories and several B/C stories running now through both main halves of the season.

Lincoln is tired of running so with Lash in the ATCU freezer, the show now has another character it can shift focus to.

Fitz maybe on to something with the conspiracy angle. I'm curious to get back to the planet as well but more so as a means to see what else may be there now that perhaps, and if they can, establish a more permanent means of coming/going there.

Still waiting to hear the codename Mockingbird used as well as Quake (sorry Tremors isn't cutting it anymore, nice tease for awhile).

I'd love to one day see This teamup of Fury and his ladies come to life in the MCU.

They should have killed Ward at the end of season two. I hate it when they keep villainous characters around past their expiration date (coughs Spike coughs).

I really hope Rosalind isn't playing Phil. I'd like to see some happiness there. At least temporarily.
I'm sorry to see Andrew go, at least temporarily, but I do like the story arc they've given him.

Last season was pretty clear: Hydra first half, Inhumans and SHIELD 2 second half. There was obviously a lot of both, but the main threat in each was clear.

This one seems to have ATCU, Hydra, and Lash all possibly wrapping up by Christmas.

With Lincoln apparently sticking around for good this time, it's a fair bet the second half of the season will finally get on with assembling the Secret Warriors team and probably get into the whole "space illuminati" thing too.

I think we can all agree that Ward's story has now overrun it's course and needs to go away or take (another) drastic character turn. Something akin to the magnitude of "he gets murdered to death and replaced by a Skrull" if they *really* want to keep that actor around.

I don't think his current story has reached its logical end yet. Right now, he's still bent on revenge, but I think it's clear that he's got to learn how to be a true Hydra leader and go for world domination or something like that.

It could also mean that unlike senator Stern or Pierce in the "Winter Soldier", he hasn't yet been exposed as a member of Hydra.
