I also don't get the impression that they literally pumped their blood from body to body. I thought it had to be harnessed in some fashion.
I'm convinced he's still alive, for what it's worth.
I felt her appearance here would make sense.

Well anything is possible, but for now I'm thinking that while some tissue is alive, the organism itself is effectively dead. As in too damaged to ever fully regenerate and eve if it did, the brain is so far gone that it'd be a mindless vegetable.
Of course that was before the base blew up. Logically those charges would have been placed specifically to make sure that the Guest would be vaporised in the blast.
They may have observed the healing powers in another of his species and therefore grabbed a corpse when they had the chance. What's curious is why they were attempting it in the first place? They must have observed some notable tissue regeneration or healing, which mean he/it was most likely alive when they encountered it, which means SHIELD are probably the ones that killed him.

Certainly, I think he's buried under that mountain, but my strong belief is that he is Mahr Vehl based on the initials G.H. Given that, I find it less likely he would be killed off.
He also has healing powers (as seen through the GH formula) and the ability to phase through walls (in the Ultimate comics). Given that, once he heals fully (now that they've stopped pumping chemicals from him), he can phase through the mountain over him and escape.

What can you guys tell me about Adrianne Palicki? Is her casting good or bad?

It'd certainly explain the state of the body if they had to practically blow him to pieces to make sure he stays down.
I can tell you that it inspired the following awesome exchange over at The AV Club:What can you guys tell me about Adrianne Palicki? Is her casting good or bad?
Sounds more like Hydra then Shield if you ask me.

Prior to The Winter Soldier, those were nearly the same thing.
I just thought of something. When Ward witnessed Garrett drawing the diagram, why didn't he recognize it as the same type of diagram he saw in the Todorov building when he was completing Akela Amador's mission?
