"AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D." - Raina's Transformation

The writers felt it was important to the character's story. 'Nuff said.

Nuff said? Sorry, not buying it. Why did the writers believe that Raina's physical transformation was important to her story?

You know what? Forget it. I just finished watching the "AoS" Season 2 episodes. And there is nothing anyone has said or what was shown in those episodes which has convinced me on why Raina had to physically transform in that manner, while Skye/Daisy and her mother didn't. I think Mutant Enemy had their own shallow reasons for allowing Raina to transform and are full of it.

Exactly. Why are Nightcrawler and Mystique blue and alien-looking, but Cyclops and Jean Grey are not? Why did radiation turn the Hulk green, but didn't turn Spider-Man a different color? Heck, look at the Fantastic Four. Why did the cosmic rays only make Ben orange and lumpy?

To paraphrase CHINATOWN: "It's comic books, Jake." :)

To add to that list: What does having mind control have to do with being "The Purple Man"? Why Does Mr. Sinister look and dress like an entire Kiss tribute band? And what the hell is Lockjaw exactly anyway?! ;)

Yes, it's all a big conspiracy!!!

It's like it's some sort of comic book adapted for tv, complete with bizarre happenings and inconsistencies!!!

Does Lockjaw mean that the Terrigen Mists can effect animals too? Did the Kree experiment on other Earth animals along with humans?
I just tried looking him up on Wikipedia and it didn't appear to have any kind of origin story/explanation for why Lockjaw is the way he is.

At one point, it was implied that the Lockjaw was an ordinary Inhuman who was turned into a dog by the Mist, but I believed that "origin" as retconned away pretty quickly! :)

I'm sorry. I didn't realize that my criticism of the Raina's physical transformation was going to bother you so much . . . to the point that you had to make fun of me. I didn't realize that you wanted no one to criticize what Mutant Enemy did.

^ If you want to be taken seriously...

It's just amusing that you'll accept "because that's what they looked like in the comics" as a valid answer but not "because that's what the show runners chose to do." I mean it's basically they same answer, deferred by one degree of separation, no?
I'm afraid you're going to have to respond to this question. ;)

It's just that that criticism is utterly and hopelessly ridiculous. And that Mutant Enemy obsession, less tinfoil, please.

It doesn't bother me, otherwise I'd write long winded posts in reply. It does amuse me, especially since you've ignored several well written posts by others that have explained rather well the reasons for Raina's transformation.

Who's bothered? I've found this thread thoroughly entertaining thus far!

Lockjaw is just Lockjaw. He likes hugs! ;)

I confess: 80% of the reason I want an INHUMANS movie or TV show is because I want a live-action Lockjaw.

Or maybe they should just save him for the inevitable MS. MARVEL tv show?

Honestly, I'd say that sounds much more interesting. I dig some of the character design, but the Inhumans books just never seemed to grab me for some reason.

The only wrinkle would be how she gets her codename. Even if they wait until after the 'Captain Marvel' movie it's going to be a bit hard to credit that Kamala would be such a fangirl of Carol if she's only been around for five minutes.
Maybe they can make a joke out of it? Like she meant her costume to be a tribute to Rogers, but the press got the wrong end of the stick and ran with it? I don't know.

Another plus: great potential for a Peter Parker cameo!

I'm a dog person, so I'm right there with you. I'm curious if they'll change him to a more normal sized bulldog played by a regular dog, or if he'll just be CG.

Your criticism is ridiculous. It's part of the fundamental creative conceit of the Inhumans that some of them look like regular folks and some of them look weird, and that there is no deeper rhyme or reason which one is which. That you accept that for Inhuman characters from the comics but not for Inhuman characters from Agents of SHIELD is arbitrary, and the fact that it actually bothers you in a comic book show is ridiculous. Why do you care?

Which is a shame, because I thought that was a fantastic idea. It made perfect sense and it raised numerous storytelling possibilities. I think it was Byrne who did that, but it might have been Shooter.

Story-wise, it's most likely a means of hiding her true powers until necessary. Since Terrigenesis was new in the show at the time, changing her appearance let the audience know that she was affected by the Terrigen Mist, but hide her clairvoyant powers until it was necessary to reveal them.
