Age differeance in couples

Is it right for a 19 yearold to date a 15 year old?

In any case, my original sentiments still stand: it's not impossible for a 15-year-old and a 19-year-old to find success in a relationship with each other, and I won't condemn anyone for trying, but the odds of them actually doing so are very, very slim. In the teen years, such an age difference would usually mean too much of a disparity in terms of maturity, expectations, and life experience. In other words, a recipe for failure.

I've known people of those ages who were in relationships, and while the relationships haven't worked out, they lasted a good long time, especially given the ages of the participants.

I try not to judge, within reason - if I knew a 19-year-old (or older) person who was dating someone that much younger than they were and I could see that it wasn't a healthy relationship, I would say something about it. But if all was going smoothly, I wouldn't see a reason to get involved.

Oh, absolutely -- if there was something obviously unhealthy about the relationship, I would probably try to talk one or both of the participants out of it too. I'd try to do so in as least meddlesome a manner as possible, however. ;)

I might have been overstating it to say "recipe for disaster". As I stated upthread, there are always exceptions to every general rule.

My son's friend is a sixteen year old boy 'seeing' a man in his early 30's. This man has been married and has a child. I am uncomfortable with that.

^I just only read that and I'm uncomfortable with that. And I'm bi so it's not the gay thing :wtf:

Oh yay, my friend announced today that she's officially together with a guy who's 30. She's 19. Kiiiinda not comfortable with that, but she has to handle this one on her own.

I would be unconfortable with that too, what the hell is a 30 year old adult doing with a pimple faced puberty facing teen....if he was 18 or 19 (the boy) okay fine. this ones a little too far out thesre for me:lol:

I really don't know what to say to that situation myself. Honestly, it probably would kind of weird me out, despite my first-hand knowledge that some relationships like that can actually work out for the best (as I wrote upthread, my mother was 16 when she started dating my then-30-year-old father -- they were married within a year and remain so today). So as the product of a relationship like that, I'd probably feel a little... conflicted if I spoke out against another.

My position is probably a unique one, I'd have to say.

Daneel It sounds like your Mum and Dad were and still are in love, that is a unique and wonderful position :) I don't see this from (let's call him) Bob and his older 'friend'. I know the older guy to say hello to and since I've known about him and 'Bob' he won't meet my eye which suggests either shame or guilt.
RaymondJames I agree, a couple more years would be less weird. I think I'll just carry on giving the older one odd looks and hope it fizzles out. I don't know who I'd rather not be - 'Bobs' mum or the older guys ex-wife??? *shrug*

I think there are laws against this. Or, at least ones that could be used by the parent of the 16-yo to get the 19-yo slapped in the pokey.

So no.

Unfortunately passed 16 they are legally allowed to do what they want sexually. and the older guy is in his 30's. It's a moral issue rather than legal. If parents do get involved you have a danger of making it even worse. It's just a shit situation. Probably shouldn't be watching Dexter at the mo:lol:
