Ratings are in for the second episode of Stargate Universe, and the show continues to struggle to find its audience on Tuesday nights.
“Aftermath” drew an estimated 1.07 million viewers last night at 9 p.m. on Syfy, down 9 percent from its season premiere the previous week (1.175 million).

Its over johnny!

(This week is also Universe‘s first Tuesday with a lead-out show, with the mid-season premiere of Caprica. The episode, titled “Unvanquished,” was watched live by 889,000 viewers. (Syfy’s lead-in for the night is a repeat of the previous week’s episode of SGU.)

Wow if they dont go up next week, which i feel they will, then this show is in trouble. Plus with the LA getting ready to attack earth, Finding the bridge, finding the gateship and more, its going to get better so everyone watch next week and that will be the judge if you will like this season or not.

Yes. I'm more of the Caprica fan (but I'm watching SGU)
Moving to Tuesday for both shows was beyond stupid...

I will be shocked if SGU or Caprica last beyond their current seasons. Hell, I'd expect SGU to be cut short given that we just started season 2 and the ratings are so abysmal. Caprica never got a second season to begin with and that's very unlikely to happen now.

^ As far as I know, the show wraps shooting in December, and I don't think SciFi/Syfy has ever cut short a season the way a network does, so even if the show gets cancelled, I think we'll have a full two seasons.

wait til the time shifted numbers come in . . .

I would hope SYFY sees the error in their ways and move SGU to fridays at 10pm after Smackdown or even before Smackdown, hell why not put it at 7-8 slot better than letting it die on tuesdays.

A move to fridays at 10 would mean SYFY would have to push Sanctuary away but you could just air the first 10 of season 3 during the SGU midseason gap and the last 10 after SGU 2nd season wraps up.

Indeed. SG-1 was announced to be canceled right after "200" aired (the very next day IIRC) and they finished and aired the remaining episodes of season 10.

Would another network not buy the rights to show the it if they decide to cancel it?

Another network might want the Stargate franchise, but I doubt they'd care to pick up this spin-off.

I have to wonder, if SyFy didn't want the show, why didn't they just cancel it last year (season ratings weren't exactly stellar, either) instead of letting the show die in this manner?

They still consider Stargate, along with Caprica, Eureka, and Warehouse 13 their flagships shows. Which is a good thing because despite ratings they have a much smaller chance of being canceled than a network show or a secondary title like Haven.

Then why did they stick two of their "flagship shows" on a day that would most certainly kill them, and is?

Because they're idiots. What more explanation is needed? They've proven time and again they have no idea how to grow a show's audience or produce hits.

That doesn't really mean anything. If the show is canceled then MGM will have to buy out his contract. It doesn't guarantee that there'll be six seasons or anything.
