After Trek 11 replace TOS 1701 with prequel Enterprise

"I'm reasonably sure that Trek XI will be a decently polished looking film, but whether it will resonate in a positive manner in the right aspects is another question."

Translation: They must bow before the purists! :scream:

Nemesis, and Enterprise were such hits.

Will Spock be an emotionally red skinned Martian? Will James Kirk's middle initial be an R?

Star Trek XI is not A Reboot tm.

This is amusingly similar to what Charles Bermant of The Seattle Times defined the as "Five Stages of Spam." I wonder how many posts you will include this in before someone catches on to what you are doing.

Exactly.

I'm also amused with those who qualify any dissent or question as a desire to retain '60s production standards and sensibilities. No one here is saying that has be such. But TPTB themselves have strongly inferred that Trek XI is a restart. As a so called TOS purist I actually don't have a problem with that and even think a restart is a reasonable move to sidestep fan criticisms in regards to continuity and to possibly entice a newer generation of potential fans.

Then they need to step up and admit it's a reboot and drop this song and dance about being "faithful/respectful of canon", because the Battlestar Enterprise in that trailer is proof that they're full of crap.

True. There are too many distinct differences in the ship we're seeing to accept it as a pre Cage Enterprise from TOS' continuity.

But you know I couldn't give a shit if they fess up or not. They've been full of crap for sooo long. Trek XI is no more of TOS' continuity than ENT was. I'll judge the project on its own merits and without worrying about whether it fits in with TOS.

And this will benefit the producers of the movie how?

You forgot one:

5. Send flaming bags of human waste to Paramount

There's respectful to what has gone before and then there's duplicating. Respectful is a ship that echoes the original, as opposed to going some new direction and making something wholly new that looks nothing like the original and carries none of the hallmarks of that. And, as much as a fan of TOS as I am, if I were in Abram's position I wouldn't worry about making the continuity work except in the broadest sense. This isn't history, it's entertainment.

Do you want the female Starfleet officers be wearing minidresses?

That is a Canon Violation tm because in The Cage & Where No Man, women wore pants.

Star Trek XI: When Women Wore Pants

If it's a restart then nothing they do is really a canon violation. They pick and choose what they want and adapt to present their own concept. ENT is a prime example.

Also the inclusion of Nimoy in the cast is nothing more than a sop to established fans. It doesn't cement Trek XI as canon in regards to TOS particularly when one considers everything else that is being changed. And there's precedent for this as well. Seeing Scotty in TNG's "Relics" establishes that Kirk was still considered alive when Scotty set out on the Jenolen, and yet in GEN Scotty believes Kirk is dead. A BIG inconsistency there I'd say.

^
Of course, post-GENERATIONS and 1994 the most common fandom reply to that dilemma is that Scotty had temporary transporter-induced amnesia or a massive brainfart after being released from 75 years inside a transport buffer. Works for me!

Without any flaming or being banned, does anyone accept that the alledged changes result from the timeline changes made during FC?

There were no timeline changes. It was a predestination paradox. It's always a predestination paradox when history gets fixed after someone tries to change it. City on the Edge of Forever. The Voyage Home. Time's Arrow. Past Tense.

It just makes things easier.

And they say Roddenberry was a visionary. What a crock. He didn't foresee Berman and Enterprise.

;)

I have a better idea, how about we replace DumbDumb2007 with the new ship so we no longer have to deal with his strange questions like this one here ?

* It's just a thought, and a random one at that *
