After "Sacrifice of Angels"

When Starfleet retakes DS9, did they re-deploy the minefield, or what? It would seem the only logical course of action. But, I can't seem to find any actual onscreen evidence that this was the case...

My impression was that the wormhole aliens magically disappearing all the Dominion ships was a recurring cop-out throughout the rest of the series, rather than a one-time only cop-out. :D

Either way, you'd think they'd have mentioned it.

The Dominion's ability to get reinforcements from the Gamma quadrant is such a huge deal, with major consequences for the direction of the war.

IIRC, Behr said in an interview that the Prophets permenately prevented the Dominion from sending reinforcements through the wormhole.

Now, it'd sure be nice to have a minefield just in case, but they were a little busy losing the war to the resource-strapped Alpha Quadrant Dominion anyway (until they coaxed the Romulans onboard, that is). So this, unlike some of the other turns in the war arc, made sense to me.

'Sacrifice of Angels' was anticlimatic, but it's not like Sisko just wished away the entire invincable Dominion forces, like a certain guy we all know... you know who he is... (he went to Z'ha'dum).

Sisko told the gods of Bajor to protect it, after all, if you're proclaiming 'we are of Bajor' then you should protect that world without needing your Emissary to tell you to protect it. Guess The Sisko has a way with sentient beings.

Since so many thought the Prohpets stopping the Dominion was lame, what would you have done? Would you have allowed the Dominion reinforcements to arrive? Destroy the wormhole? Wait, can't do that, supposedly it can't be anymore thanks to that one Founder.

So yeah, what you have done instead?

I assumed that the Dominion chose not to send anymore ships through after the first fleet vanished, fearing the Prophets would make them disappear as well.

Isn't that how Dukat was able to get help from Weyoun and Damar at the end of Season 6, by claiming the Pagh-wraiths would be able to neutralize the Prophets, thus allowing reinforcements to come through the Wormhole?

^ This is true! Now I remember him saying that. And I remember thinking that it reinforced the idea that it was the prophets that weren't allowing any more Dominion ships through the wormhole, rather than a re-deployed minefield.

That's the only onscreen mention of that, though. Especially weird in a show known for it's concern with continuity

Yeah, I remember thinking during the series finalle that this was the first time we'd seen anyone go through the wormhole in over two years! Pretty funny since that was supposed to be the centerpoint of the series.

DS( is still the best Trek though, so I'm forgiving.

Since they were at war with the Dominion, sending ships through would have been counterproductive.

There's a line in The Reckoning (where Sisko tries to return the favor) where a character mentions the Prophets are continuing to block the wormhole. That's why Dukat hoped to open it by unleashing the Pah-wraith into the wormhole in Tears of the Prophets.

Yeah I think it was Dax or someone asking why starfleet would allow Sisko to let the fight happen on the station and worf saying that starfleet felt it was important because the wormhole aliens were preventing the dominon from coming through. Starfleet's way of kinda thanking them for keeping the AQ safe I guess. However if that scene was remembered correctly, and that was starfleets attitude, then why did Ross give Sisko so much shit later on when he had to make the decision to go with the fleet and attack the chintoka system or stay behind on the station because the prophets warned him. You'd think they would say, "fine stay behind, do whatever they request." It was Kira who one that battle anyway. I guess thats another thread.

Is it the case that the minefield blocked any and all traffic? Thus rendering the wormhole useless? Deploying it as the Dominion took over DS9 made sense as it rendered their position there much less strategically effective.

But when they took back DS9, perhaps they held new minefield components in storage for redeployment if a similarly desperate situation were to arise.

Naturally they would have to make modifications so that the technique researched by the Cardassians would not be able to take down the minefield this time around.

I was thinking they could have encoded some sort of backdoor signal which would temporarily disperse the mines to allow transit of friendlies, but there is a risk that such a signal could be intercepted and decoded.
