Adventure in Space and Time

I didn't see a thread addressing this, so i'll just throw it out there.

I bought this on a whim. I was under the impression is was a documentary, the ordinary sort, just clips and interviews about Who's history.

Instead what I saw was a wonderfully moving tribute to Hartnell and Who's origins. Damn, it nearly drove me to tears on a few occassions.

If they could only do something half as good as this for Trek's 50th, I would be overjoyed.

Yeah it was very well done. I wasn't expecting to be that interested in it but I really liked it. Matt Smith's cameo was particularly touching.

In the same way I consider Galaxy Quest to be the best Star Trek movie--this was the best Dr. Who story.

I liked the movie but I think it went on too long, I saw it more as a tribute to Verity Lambert and it seemed to be her story for the first two thirds. It should have ended when she left the show instead of switching focus to Hartnell.

Budget issues: early scripts had a lot more flashback material about Hartnell's childhood, and when that got cut Vetity became more of a joint lead.

Mostly where I think the treatment of Verity falls down is that she just suddenly stops being a viewpoint character about halfway through. Up until that point it's all been about her desire to get this show made, then all of a sudden Hartnell's being told she's leaving the show-- an important decision has been made by one of the protagonists and we don't know a thing about it.

It was my favorite of the 50th anniversary celebrations last year. I would love for something similar to happen for trek but it really is sad to hear what is going on for the movie. I worry the 50th for trek won't amount to very much.

I also enjoyed The Five(ish) Doctors as part of the cebrations. The BBC did quite a bit to celebrate DW's 50th the question in relation to ST is what will CBS/Paramount do over and above the planned film.

It should be seen as a movie though, it's really historically accurate in places. But it is a great movie though and a great addition to Doctor Who.
