Ad Astra

I think that's a great new review challenge. :)

I still don't know quite how active I'll be over there for the next couple weeks (convention coming up next weekend!), but I'll try. :)

Love the new review challenge, although I pity the unsuspecting soul who stumbles across mine. I even plan to get in on this one, since Spring Break is finally here which means I'll have some free time for 'fun reading!' (as opposed to the historical ramifications of the treaty of who knows on the people of I-don't-care.)

Who knows, maybe I can get some writing in to boot!

Thanks again SLWatson, for both creating AdAstra and for actually letting me in... now, how does that subject-predicate sentence structure go again?!

LMAO! I'm gonna love reading yours. Most people who know me by now know that I adore reading the 'historical' Federation pieces; heck, most of my Arc of the Wolf takes place before TOS canon, just because. Just have to have enough time to sit down to do it.

And you're totally barking up the wrong tree if you're looking for grammar help. ::dies:: I can write, and I know the rules, but I can't remember the technical terms for them or anything.

Two Days Left...
...to vote. We only have one, currently, so please go read and pick a favorite for the 'Thanks For Listening' challenge and let me know one way or the other. C'mon, folks. ;-) They're short stories.

Server Maintenance
I just received notification that the server Ad Astra is hosted on is going to be switched over. ETA: Mike and I have decided to just go ahead and switch service over to the backup site for the duration of this server move thing. It works EXACTLY the same way this one does; you can upload, review, whatever you like.

From here on, use the adastrafanfic.com domain, which will be pointed to our full back-up archive within the hour. Believe me, we have plenty of contingencies in place.

Vote!
We still need votes on the 'Thanks For Listening' challenge. You can e-mail me, PM me on one of the forums, IM me or anything else. So get those votes in, people!

To reiterate what Steff just said, it's always a good idea to use the adastrafanfic.com/net/org addresses. Simply because of the fact that it'll always point to the active site. That way, if we've failed over, you won't get a shocking "Connection Timed Out" error and think that the site went the way of HopeStation.net :)

Hey, it looks like my most recent submission isn't on the backup, and some reviews got eaten as well. Will everything be on the full site when it's restored or have I lost my work? Some of the stuff I did to my last submission was new. :(

You mean this submission: http://adastra.wnohgb.org/viewstory.php?sid=220 ?

WHEW! I couldn't find it when I went looking, so I'm SO glad it's there!! :)

Yeah, everything's there. Some discrepancies in the category counts and statistics, but even if those don't clear up before we're back on SKO, they're really minor issues. Given that I don't have a ton of faith right now in GoDaddy, I'll take the minor issues over any major ones.

I was going to say.. the db should have been current as of 5 minutes before we did the failover.

Yeah, really!

You're not using GoDaddy, are you? :(

Edit: I'm seeing some other weird stuff too...for instance, "A Weaver of Lives" isn't acting like it's part of the series when you look it up under Sigils and Unions--but if I look up the story individually through "manage stories," it's there and showing it's been assigned to Sigils.

Not right at the moment, we're not. The backup site is housed in an entirely different facility.

We'll work out the bugs, don't worry. Transferring a whole database can be a bit of a pain in the hind-end, but so long as we have no data-loss, we can figure out the fine-tuning as we go. SKO is on GoDaddy, but since we're absurdly paranoid about backups, we can switch the domains to the backup at any point and the most we'll lose is a day's worth of info.

I see...not knowing about running a major website, I didn't know what could seriously affect a site and what wouldn't. I'm not trying to be a pain, I promise! ;)

And just as a safety tip.. PLEASE don't upload anything to the site that you yourself don't have a copy of. PLEASE.
