Actors who look like their parents/grandparents

Not actors, I know, but...
Dhani Harrison looks just like his dad George Harrison. Very much so.
The Beatles had some powerful genes. While the resemblance isnt as as strong as with George and Dhani, Sean and Julian look a lot like John and James looks like a lot like Paul. Even Zak and Ringo look similar.

The Skipper and his dad; Alan Hale Sr. and Alan Hale Jr.

Emilio Estevez and Charlie Sheen both look like Martin Sheen... but don't look like each other.

I've often thought the same thing. And in this week's episode of Two and Half Men, there were time when Charlie was talking in a voice that sounded almost exactly like his father.

I read once that Charlie has always been able to sound like his dad, but actually worked at changing his manner of speech so as to not sound like him.

If I remember it right, it was in an interview being done about Hot Shots part Duex, and the "dueling river monologues". The person doing the interview asked if they had to work to sound so similar, and charlie responded that when he talked normal that was the way he always sounded, so some such.

I remember watching the movie Grand Prix and the TV series Earth 2 at relatively the same time and wondered how the same actor could look the same 30 years apart, until I took notice of the Sr. and Jr. after the name Antonio Sabato ! They looked very much alike when they were in their 20s...

Donald Sutherland has a much longer face than Kiefer. However, they both give off nearly identical vibes. They're warm & gravelly when playing good guys; downright terrifying when playing bad guys. And I think if Kiefer went on a starvation diet (think Christian Bale in The Machinist), he'd look almost exactly like Donald.

David Troughton can look a lot like Patrick Troughton.

They've got the same eyes, the same lines around the mouth, the same imperious expression. Put a black Beatle wig on David and you wouldn't see any difference at all. However, I don't think Sam Troughton has much of a resemblance at all. He probably takes after his mother.

Emilio Estevez and Charlie Sheen both look like Martin Sheen... but don't look like each other.

I dunno. I think that Emilio & Charlie have a certain resemblance to each other. Before I knew they were related, I remember watching Terminal Velocity and thinking, "That guy looks a lot like the guy from The Mighty Ducks."

As for how much they look like Martin, I'd say that Charlie looks like Martin when Martin is playing super-serious & dramatic. Emilio looks like a more casual, less intense Martin.

Will Smiths kids look like him and Jada.

Jaden Smith is too old to really make a determination about appearances. However, I could hear a lot of Will's cadences during Jaden's performance in The Karate Kid.

^ I remember some journalist saying that Charlie is the son of the crazy Martin from the 1970s, star of Apocalypse Now and Badlands, while Emilio is the son of slightly blander Martin from countless 1980s miniseries and telemovies.

On the flip side, Liv Tyler is probably glad she doesn't look like Steven. :)

I think she does - obviously she's better-looking and has female versions of his features but there's a definite resemblance.

She grew up thinking that Todd Rungren was her father but she saw Tyler at a party and saw him looking oddly at her She knew her mother had had a relationship and noted the resemblance, so confronted her mother, who admitted the truth.

Ah...a wise guy!!!! ^^^

So is Jill Hennessy btw. :D

And Nicholas Brendon & Kelly Donovan.;)

For that matter, Steven Tyler's Jolie-esque lips would be considered a lovely feature on a woman as opposed to a freakish deformity on a man.

Kinda the opposite with Lisa Marie Presley. She looks like her dad. But that face on a girl is not very attractive IMO.

I read once that Charlie has always been able to sound like his dad, but actually worked at changing his manner of speech so as to not sound like him.

Since my father's recent passing, I've reconnected with family members and his former friends, and a lot of them have mentioned that I sound uncannily like him, not just the voice but the cadence and delivery. Sometimes I can hear it myself. Recently, when I was opening a bank account and trying to give a number as clearly as possible, I realized afterward that I'd unconsciously used exactly the cadence and intonation he used as a radio announcer. I think if I'd tried to mimic him on purpose, though, I wouldn't have been able to.

I guess it's that we learn how to speak by listening to the people who raise us, so parents and children often grow up with the same speech rhythms. Maybe there's a genetic component to it as well.

(I also look very much like my father did when he was younger, except I've never worn a beard. But neither of us has acted professionally -- well, he did maybe once or twice.)

The opposite is true of Nastassja Kinski, who IMO looks a lot like her father Klaus, but she is beautiful and he was one of the ugliest film actors ever. (IMO)

Here's an interesting 'backwards' one: Young dad and old son.

Art Carney from the Honeymooners and Brian Carney in a GEICO Ad.

Even with the age differences, I can see it.
