Actors on ENT - SAG or AFTRA?

Do you guys know which group each of the actors are in -- SAG or AFTRA? I'm curious how the impending (it seems) strike will affect them (SAG) or possibly not affect them (AFTRA).

And any thoughts on the strike? I think the writers strike went on for too long. I'm all for the writers getting their fair share, but am concerned about the makeup artists, set designers, camera crews and what not that are affected by some of the guilds' strikes. I wish the networks/studios would've caved sooner. I believe the last cost LA around 2 billion. Wow!

^ I know they haven't. They're -- last I read -- reviewing the latest negotiation and deciding what to do. They should make their decision soon (within the week or so). I'm just curious. For example, I was surprised to see Kevin Spacey in AFTRA -- a more television oriented guild.

For those who don't know, actor's are considering going on strike. What's interesting is two acting guilds Screen Actors Guild seems more vocal about striking and AFTRA (American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) seems happy with the deal they've gotten. I'm sure the media is making more out of this, but Tom Hanks (AFTRA) and Jack Nicholson (SAG) have sparred a little about the deal.

AFTRA is very small and probably didn't think they had the clout -- even tho' SAG would have been behind them. It'll be interesting to see if they do strike and whether they get a better deal than AFTRA (I'm surprised they haven't merged; unless there are philosophical issues).

The majority of actors employed in broadcast network shows, SAG members are used. AFTRA covers most shows produced outside of primetime-soaps, game shows, radio, stage productions, Sat AM fare...as well as some cable shows. The cable shows' budget will determine whether a show is produced under AFTRA or SAG.
Many actors belong to both.

That's not it. The sparring between the guilds have been SAG saying, "Hold out for a better deal. (So we can get a better deal.)" And AFTRA has been countering with, "The deal we have is fine and fair. (You're on your own, SAG.)" SAG is more likely to get what they want if they unite, which is why they're pressuring AFTRA.

Besides, AFTRA sounds like they didn't *want* to strike. The writers strike among Hollywood caused a lot of issues with all the groups I mentioned in my first post of this thread: makeup artists, set designers, camera workers, etc. The writers strike cost an incredible amount of money. Again, as forementioned -- $2 billion. Even during the last writers strike many crossed picket lines to keep fellow artists (makeup artists, etc.) able to pay their mortgage and what not.

You asked why did Tom Hanks and Kevin Spacey (and others) chose AFTRA? Dunno. Maybe guild fees, benefits, leadership ....

I don't know how long they've been in existence, but doesn't seem like they'll unite soon. And again, for AFTRA, the members who've been quoted in news stories seem to think their deals have been fair.

Cykloth, thanks!

So, back to ENT actors in SAG or AFTRA ... or according to Cykloth both?

For what it's worth, Scott's name is listed in the SAG ad supporting their view. The ad was in the trade papers a week or so ago.

As far as Enterprise, does it really matter? (I kept looking at this thread to see how old it is.)

The Hollywood Report keeps updating a section on their site about the looming actors strike They're reading a 43 page proposal they're trying hammer out the details.from the sounds of things they're still disagreeing with each other the movie studios and the actors. The Canadian movie studios have halted filming movie and tv shows as well. Because it affects them as well.

All the Trek show were strickly SAG shows. Star Trek was one of the few TV shows I know of that only hired SAG background actors also. In many cases TNG, DS9, VGR, and Enterprise had the same background actors the entire run of the show. Some of the others were The West Wing, MASH, and Night Court.

Well, it does matter to those of us who not only love the show but enjoy watching particular actors. I don't follow the careers of many actors. However, John Billingsley is one of those actors who I watch (and enjoy) no matter what show he's in. Therefore, even though ENT and the other treks are long gone in terms of new shows, any strike that might effect John's life right now also means that his fans won't get to see him in anything new until the strike is over. Personally, I worry about ALL the actors because 1. this is their bread and butter and to not work is of course to be unemployed and 2. because many of the more successful actors have far bigger debt that many of us do (bigger LA mortgages, bigger bills, more expenses and so on. So while the selfish part of me is saying "Oh no! I might not see my favorite actors in anything new", the other part of me is thinking "Oh no! those poor people, if they haven't prepared, they are going to be hit hard (by both the writer's strike and then the SAG strike)". And of course, yes, I think about everyone else who aids the industry because they are ALL effected. Strikes hit everyone hard.

Thanks. Interesting! Keith Caradine (AG Robinson) is also up for a seat.

I'm usually pro-union, but I think on this one, I disagree with SAG. The writer's strike cost LA a lot of money, especially those who couldn't afford it. I wish the companies had capitulated sooner, but feel sorry for those who can't afford to live through another strike.
