Re: Dax in the sequel?

Why invent new aliens, while ignoring all the interesting races from the Trek canon?

Maybe because it shows that the Federation is big and actually has many members and not just the 10 races we've seen over and over again in the past.

Re: Dax in the sequel?

I don't care whether we see the Trill, but I wouldn't mind seeing Crewman Dax with the webbed feet from "Star Trek VI" again ...

I think they should make more of an effort to use familiar aliens, such as Andorians, Tellarites, Orions, Klingons, and Cardassians.

All those random "Star Wars Cantina" aliens in this movie could just as easily have been Denobulans or Lurians or Andorians or Deltans.

Your damn right!

I hope that the :borg: aren't used though..and we already tussled with the :rommie:s twice...Leonard Nimoy chose to use the :klingon:s as the antagonists in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock because he felt they were more "theatrical", and given the future-Prime Universe Kirk's past/future history with them, it'd be neat to see them on the big screen...Over used? Perhaps...but come on, if this new film series is supposed to capture the spirit of TOS, you've got to have them on screen at some point!

The question is...bumpy heads or not? Or both?

Re: Dax in the sequel?

So please, no Dax, no LaForge, no more Spock Prime, and no goddamn William Tiberius Shatner! :)[/QUOTE]

sure - I'll trade ya' no Kirk for no Dax!

Re: Dax in the sequel?

Because there were about one-and-one-half of them.

Properly, of course, these would be called "species." One of the dumber simplifications of Trek is to pretend that the Universe is full of human beings who just all look a little different and have different belief systems.

No. No Dax. No cameos.

Re: Dax in the sequel?

Technically speaking, since this is an alternate history, they could kill of Dax (the Dax symbiont, I mean). That would be a shocking twist for Trek fans (while regular people wouldn't have a fucking clue what is going on).

I tend to think characters are best when they serve the story and the rule of thumb for the new movie is that it has to be in a way that allows the average audience member to understand what the deal is with the person more or less right away. But, as long as those two things are met, there's no problem with cameos of old trek people.

Well not everybody has seen these races right? Isn't this movie really to bring in new fans who know little or nothing about Trek? They should use a few oldies and invent a few new ones too...that would satisfy the majority of people and be a good compromise.

And I have no idea who DAX is...... so this DAX would be new to me !

Glad to see this thread and here are a some of my requests:

1) SpockPrime must not die
2) Absolutely no time travel
3) No Dax
4) No Khan
5) Maybe no obvious baddie, some other implicit problem.
6) No artificial or contrived shoehorning of any characters, plots, sets, etc. from the previous Trek
7) More of the same as ST11, building and introducing ideas naturally.

Bring back the Shat as Tiberius Kirk, even if only for a cameo.

He should be allowed to bow out as the grandaddy of the Kirk clan.

It might be intresting and ironic if the Shat appeared as the step-father in a flashback.

.. or how about Samuel T Cogley?

I want a story where the only familiar things are the ship, crew and the basic structure of their universe. I don't want to see a remake of an episode or prior movie, nor do I want to see a bunch of other cameos of secondary and tertiary characters.

Go and "seek new life, new civilizations". The field is wide open, now. Embrace the freedom.

Exactly.

I don't want a "bad guy" per se. I'd rather see an encounter with an unknown species (no more canon to worry about--so it need not be any species already "known") that has tragic early consequences but is resolved by the crew working together. It need not lack for action (TMP is a film I like, but it could have done with a some more action) but it need not be a "good vs. evil" confrontation either. The "conflict" can be one borne of misunderstandings and overcoming those misunderstandings successfully (but not without cost) would be the story.

i'm going to end up with everything you say i think :techman:

Re: What actors / characters / plots do you want to see in Star Trek X

What do I want to see? Something so original, so outside the box, so divorced from all story lines that we have seen before, that we could sit around here and speculate for another thousand years and never come close.

Yet still remain recognizably Trek.

What Kind Of "Easter Eggs" Would You Like In Trek XII?

Well I suppose "Easter Eggs" is the correct term for this.

For me what i'd have liked to have seen in Trek XI in the bar scene would have been Morn sitting there between Uhura and Kirk, it would have been a "that's awesome" moment.

So it got me thinking about Trek XII.

I think i'd like a background or 10 second scene with John de Lancie playing Q, he won't interact with Kirk and co but he'll just be in the background being rowdy or something (you know how he is). I think for new Trek fans he'll just be another background actor but to long term Trek fans it'd be a nice nod. Would be cool to let us see what Q was getting up to around Kirks time.

So does anyone else have any thoughts?

Personally, I want Easter eggs, actual Easter eggs. I want to see the white rabbit from Shore Leave hopping through the halls of the Enterprise, flinging hard boiled, multi colored eggs at everybody. I know I would sure get the reference.
