Johnny Depp as Sarek. Sorry, though I liked Ben Cross, he was too old for the role. Sarek and Spock are only old 70 Earth years apart. They should look closer in age like they did in Journey to Babel. Depp can be intimidating, arrogant, cool, and has the formidable screen presence that Sarek's portrayer needs.

Daniel Day Lewis. He's my default answer to any "what actor would you like to see in ______" because he's amazing in everything. Klingon, Romulan, Human--doesn't matter. He'd be great.

That has to be full of material. Daniel Craig would make a good Andorian.

I'm not a fan of Bruce Campbell and I certainly would not want to see any campy and/or jovial Klingons.

Oh m' god, like... HELL NO. Reese Witherspoon needs to stay far far away from the Paramount lot. Zooey Deschanel (Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy) would rock as Carol Marcus. I originally thought of her older sister from "Bones", but Zooey's cuter and closer to Kirk's age.

I was thinking this myself. He's a self-confessed huge Trek fan, and a great guy. He was brilliant on Jonathan Ross last week. I suspect that if JJ offered Hanks something in Trek 12, Hanks would probably do it for free.
He'd need a cameo that provided him with suitable gravitas to remind everyone of how good a serious actor he is. I wouldn't want him doing a comedy turn just for the sake of being in the film for two minutes.

Yes, I believe that name was bandied about at the time...my fear with making a big "name" actor into a secondary/villain role would be done for hype and nothing more, to the point that the actor would overshadow the film itself. This is why I'm glad we didn't have Matt Damon Kirk and Adrien Brody Spock. I'd rather see good, solid character actors like Bana and Pegg and the others we got as opposed to whoever is "hot" when XII is made.

I've read that rumour before, but I don't know the reason for Hanks not taking the part, if indeed it was ever offered to him. I wish he had been up for the role. Nothing against James Cromwell, but he's never worked for me in that film.

Will Trek XII be like 'The Dark Knight' or... 'Quantum Of Solace'..??
I'm expecting sooooo much from Trek XII... I hope they'll go balls to the wall on every level, to truely make it 'The Empire Strikes Back' of Trek. With that, I don't mean that it should be like SW (please...), but 'Empire...' was such a terrific middle act 'cause it left things wide open and the ending was such a shocking, twisting reveal...
But it could go very different ways I guess.
Trek XI has been compared to both 'Batman Begins' and 'Casino Royale' a lot, and I understand why: both of them rebooted an existing series in a somewhat radical way, drawing in many new fans. But where Batman was followed up by 'The Dark Knight' (which I find somewhat comparable to 'Empire...' on a dramatic level) a film generally regarded as a superior film compared to 'Batman Begins' (certainly backed up by critical and commercial responses), Bond followed with 'Quantum', which is generally regarded as a much weaker part...
Of course I hope Trek XII will have the same effect as 'The Dark Knight'.... I'm dreading it will be like 'Quantum'....

He plays a pretty good drunk though. I would've given up on Trek if Tom Hanks took the part. Tom Hanks is another person that needs to stay far, far away from the Paramount lot.

Since I totally believe the producers are going to bring her into the next movie in someway, so as to make Kirk a more central character (and even lead to a possible Khan sequel) I wonder who would be casted to play her? Who would make a good Carol Marcus?

No, it's Kirk in Pike's era. There's no reason why Number One couldn't be featured in a new story. In fact, we're probably not even at the same time frame as when the Cage Happened, so she might get reassigned to the Enterprise still.[/QUOTE]
