Re: Should Shatner return in a sequel?

I hope not. Shatner's time has come and gone.

Re: Should Shatner return in a sequel?

I wouldn't say no to Shatner coming back, but it's not essential to me in any way.

Re: Should Shatner return in a sequel?

If they could do it seriously. (perhaps to restore Vulcan?)

I think we should not fall into the "baton has been passed" trap. There is no passing, it is all trek. All generations past, present, and future matter to the continuity.

If it is just a question of baton and baton then there is no continuity and we are just going to have reboot after reboot.

Re: Should Shatner return in a sequel?

Abrams himself is already throwing the idea of Shatner being in the next film. Here is a quote.

In an interview with "Trek" helmer J.J Abrams says it's ''actually a possibility''' that William Shatner may be back as a latter-day Captain Kirk in the sequel.

I thought having Nimoy in this film was one of, if not the high point of the film. Shatner and Nimoy one more time (if they fit the stroy) would be a good thing.

Re: Should Shatner return in a sequel?

As much as I cringe at the thought of old, bloated Shatner portraying Kirk again, it occurred to me that maybe Kirk won't "die" on the Enterprise B in this new continuity. Therefore, a Kirk from THIS future would presumably be alive, kicking, retired and living the good life somewhere around the end of the 23rd century.
But they really shouldn't do it.

What actors / characters / plots do you want to see in Star Trek XII?

Let's hear some ideas for what everyone wants to see in the sequel to this summer's hit film.

Personally I'd like to see:

- Spock Prime uniting the Vulcan race (the surviving population) with the existing Romulan Empire of 2258 to be one united species.

- Spock would technically be achieving the reunification he wanted in TNG

- The Federation and the Romulan/Vulcan civilization could be allies.. and the Klingons would definitely want to destroy such an alliance.

- It would be incredibly ironic for Nero. His actions in destroying Vulcan would unite the Federation and Romulans together; instead of destroying the Federation. It would be similar to Alan Moore's Watchmen; when Oxymandias launches a devastating nuclear attack that results in the world powers uniting.

- Kang, Kor and Koloth would need to be in it.

- I'd like to see Kirk fighting a Gorn too; that'd be epic (CGI like the animals on Delta Vega)

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_N05YNsYdB90/SO7LJGfhXOI/AAAAAAAAAPU/C6_eGubc8QE/s320/Gorn.jpg

- I'd like to see Janice Rand and Nurse Chapel;

I'd like Kristen Bell (Heroes) for Janice Rand:

And Sarah Lancaster (Chuck) for Nurse Chapel:

[Images posted inline should be hosted on web space belonging to you. Hotlinked images converted to links. - M']

- I'd like to see flashbacks of the Earth/Romulan Wars; to put their new alliance in context.

- I'd like to see modern versions of the dress uniforms and Captain's casual attire uniform

- I'd like some cameos by memorable TOS secondary characters; Mudd, Richard Daystrom etc

- I'd like to see the Andorians and Tellerites as part of the Federation council

That's it for now.

A crossover with Early Edition. My two favourite shows, united and restored at last!

Re: What do you want to see in Star Trek XII (The Sequel) ??

Another good story with style, wit, and fantastic characters.

Maybe one with a little more intellectual emphasis, but even that's not really that important.

Re: What do you want to see in Star Trek XII (The Sequel) ??

All i want to see is another good Trek movie. Whatever they choose to put in it, so long as it's good, will be wonderful for me.

Agreed. As long as they build upon these characters and what they've established here, I am going to be thrilled. I want to see more of this universe we have found ourselves in.

Re: What do you want to see in Star Trek XII (The Sequel) ??

Star Trek hasn't even been released, but screenwriters Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, and Damon Lindelof already have an idea of who the bad guy will be in the sequel.

In an interview with ComingSoon.net, the writers hinted that the potential sequel might see the return of Khan, the iconic Star Trek villain who terrorised the Starship Enterprise in the original TV series and in the 1982 flick Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.

Ricardo Montalban originally portrayed Khan, though writers have someone in mind to take over the role: Academy Award-winning No Country for Old Men star Javier Bardem.

"That would be the most amazing thing ever," said Lindelof, wary that adding Khan to a sequel might overshadow the rest of the characters. "Who would even what to see these [new] guys then? That's the problem. You would just watch them for scenery."

The trio added that the yet-to-be-confirmed sequel will look at classic Star Trek storylines though "a slightly different lens", though they'll see what Trekkers make of the first movie before making any decisions.

"Let's see what our fan consultants say," said Orci. "These Star Trek fans are some of the smartest fans in the world."

Wouldn't want that at all. A sequel needs to forge its own path, not rely on nostalga and rehashing what has been done before.

Re: What do you want to see in Star Trek XII (The Sequel) ??

I'd like to see some other TOS characters not glimpsed in the new movie. Maybe get a story going with some Klingons or something, but I dunno. I dont really want to see them simply remake TOS episodes with a different spin, stretched into a 2 hour movie. It'd kinda defeat the purpose of starting over, you know?

Although a 150 million dollar version of "The Doomsday Machine" would be pretty damned cool.... Hmmmmm..... ;)

Re: What do you want to see in Star Trek XII (The Sequel) ??

I posted this in the villain thread but I guess it belongs here. Mods, feel free to delete my other post in that thread if desired.

As the Enterprise prepares to test the Genesis device in orbit around a desolate planet, they encounter a small pod containing a mentally unstable, bipolar remnant of the Eugenics War (Khan, played by Johnny Depp). Khan is having an internal struggle trying to control the murderous and malevolent emotions resulting from his incomplete genetic engineering.

Kirk befriends Khan throughout the movie as he sees elements of Khan in himself (no real father, misunderstood). Certain personnel in Starfleet place pressure on the Enterprise to get the test underway. Khan appears to have a psychotic break and steals the Genesis Device and beams down onto the planet, killing Kirk's fiance aboard the Enterprise in the process. A frenetic cat-and-mouse chase ensues as Kirk personally chases down Khan in one of the planet's labrynthic cave networks. Khan's genetically superior half seems to gain the upper hand on him, giving him the upper edge in the chase and setting traps that nearly kill Kirk until they finally meet. A vicious physical battle follows in which Kirk, out for revenge, strangles Khan to the point of death. Khan manages to fight Kirk off and escape, with Kirk in pursuit.

Meanwhile, on the Enterprise, Spock discovers why Starfleet has been placing so much pressure on them to begin the test. In one of the planet's many underground caves, a secret dumping point exists for the genetically altered descendants of the Eugenics Wars.

Kirk, notified by Spock, realizes that violence is not the solution in this situation and tries to get through to Khan. The better side of Khan manages to break through for an instant, allowing Kirk to catch up, but not before the Genesis device is activated from a remote source. Kirk confesses to Khan that Khan killed his fiance. Spock realizes that Starfleet is using the Enterprise as a relay point to control the Genesis device and that the only way to stop the device from being used in this murderous capacity is to place the Genesis device on the Enterprise, travel away to an empty part of space, and then destroy the Enterprise. With precious few minutes remaining, Spock sets the ship for autopilot and sends a shuttle to bring the Genesis device onboard. Khan, filled with guilt, incapacitates Kirk at the shuttle site after everyone has taken refuge, boards the shuttle and maroons himself onboard the Enterprise with the Genesis device. With his last breath, he apologizes to Kirk on the empty bridge as the Enterprise self-destructs, destroying the Genesis device with it.

The movie ends with Kirk realizing that one of the descendants on the planet is Khan's son. Kirk adopts him as his own. Spock faces a court martial from Starfleet as the crew realize this conspiracy runs deeper than initially thought.

OK, that's pretty fanboyish. ;)

Re: What do you want to see in Star Trek XII (The Sequel) ??

I mean, I can think of about 10,000 ideas that would maybe be cool, but turning said ideas into a good movie is something they're clearly much better at than me. I'll just wait and see what they come up with; I'm expecting to be pretty impressed.

Re: What do you want to see in Star Trek XII (The Sequel) ??

No Khan. Leave him alone.

That said, I would like a villain that has a more personal connection to our Heroes. Nero was pissed at Old Spock, but that doesn't really count. If you're going to have a villain, I'd like him/her/it to be more directly invested in Kirk...and no, that doesn't mean they want to blow up Earth.

Re: What do you want to see in Star Trek XII (The Sequel) ??

Use the old script where Kirk and Spock go back to 60s and kill Kennedy.

I love it! You should work for Paramount.

Re: What do you want to see in Star Trek XII (The Sequel) ??

^ Brilliantly, you even left Uhura off the list completely, because that's pretty much her stereotypical role too!

Nicely done :)

Re: What do you want to see in Star Trek XII (The Sequel) ??

In all seriousness, one thing I would like to see is a plot that really tests the Kirk-Spock-McCoy dynamic. We've spent STXI establishing the characters. Now, let's put them through their paces.
