Abramsverse vs NuTrek. It is time to settle on a title!

I just call it Star Trek. I don't know what the "nu" means, other than a mispelling of "new" and I don't like it anyway...TNG might as well be called "new trek" too since it wasn't TOS. What's the difference?

I cast my vote for Abramsverse. It sets a bad example for kids to see words spelled incorrectly. If you wanted to call it NewTrek then things might be different but it's to late to bring in a third title option. When I eventually make the thread 'Did Kirk's penis inflate like his fingers after the injection" I want the kids to be proud there reading it in a forum that suports proper spelling.

Jason

do you mean to say "I want the kids to be proud they're reading it in a forum that supports proper spelling . . . "

Different timeline, reboot, etc.

I don't like nuTrek, but it's convenient and quick. I suspect over time it will die out and simply become Star Trek.

The Abramsverse is no good, since it's highly unlikely he will be managing it forever. Hell, he might not even direct the next movie, for all we know.

Which is why we should go with Badass Trek.

I think both will stick around for a while because they refer to different things. The Abramsverse is where NuTrek takes place. Maybe after Abrams himself exits state left some other term like NuTrekverse may replace Abramsverse.

I've just been calling it ST09 or Trek XI. Because as a rule, "Nu" anything sounds stupid IMO.

I think the issue is over done, trek is here and its not a failure - so its trek.

there aren't that many situations where you need to classify, in which case you can use TOS for the old and TRB, ST09, XI, Abrams etc depending on what your focusing on.

The thing to remember is that this is star trek - its the same universe in which everything else happened (or didn't - I still don't accept enterprise), but it has been temporally attacked - much like in back to the future.

What I don't like is words such as alternate time line/universe or parallel reality - that is a completely different scenario. (namely the B2tF version indicates this is still star trek, the one and only trek - the alternate version indicates that we can pick and choose which alternate reality we want at will - therefore pick your own trek, nothing has meaning any more).

We haven't even got a proper name yet for the Berman era, other than the "Berman era".

After consideration I suggest Star Trek-that-was-good-for-quite-a-while-but-peaked-in-the-mid-nineties-and-went-up-its-own-ass-outstayed-its-welcome-and-by-the-end-was-pretty-tired.

Thoughts? Not sure if it is catchy enough.

"Different timeline, reboot, etc. "

so what? "Canon" has always been defined as the video material put out by Paramount with the Star Trek name. The movies and tv shows were produced by Paramount under the Star Trek license and, hence, are entitled to be called Star Trek canon. That makes this movie official Star Trek canon (whether the audience likes it or not, that's not one of the criteria) so it's just Star Trek. No more or less Star Trek than anything that came before it regardless of who directed it, what universe it's in, who played so-and-so, etc. It's just Star Trek.

I've lived in the Trek universe for over 30 years. I saw TMP in an actual theater. I saw every episode of every TV show. I read as many of the books as I could find and make the time for. I know that this new movie makes a lot of fans rather upset what with the alternate universe, and supposed violations but, as it's Official Canon, whatever was in that movie is just what it is.

It doesn't need it's own name.

Anybody who can't remember the sequence isn't intelligent enough to watch Star Trek anywayz.

I'm sorry to jump into this conversation but did anyone bothered to ask the only relevant vote in this matter, the studio?

We already know what they've named the new universe: "Star Trek".

Else, it would probably have been "New Trek" or "Cool Trek" or something like that. :D
