Abed's story arc in this week's episode of Community

I knew I'd missed something when Jeff talked about Abed delivering a baby, but I figured it was web content or something.

I guess I've just grown accustomed to following the foreground action on auto-pilot.

Reminds me of the second time I saw LotR:FotR, I watched the background instead of the foreground.

Just watched the full episode finally. I'm really starting to like this show - the only thing holding it back from greatness is Ken Jeong. The Chang character is totally unnecessary and grinds and comedic momentum to a screeching halt every time he comes on screen.

I'm not sure we're watching the same show. Chang is pretty much Jeong's best role to-date, and he's a wild element in terms of the long-term storyarc.

i caught most of the Abed stuff first time around... =)

as for Chang, i liked him better as a prof. but i thought it was entertaining watching him respond to the restraining order "force bubble."

i think community is at it's best when Abed is manipulating the action, like the buddy cop episode, or the good fellas episode

Abed is to me the 'Sheldon' of this show in some regards. Meaning he's the most interesting character. When things happen around him the other characters more often than not become more fun.

Taking bets now that when this show ends, it will end with Abed in bed, looking into a snow globe... :)

Further evidence of this show's remarkable attention to background details. From 40 seconds into this week's pen-thief episode....you can (barely) see the pen being stolen off the table when the camera cuts to Shirley, Troy and Abed. I watched the episode twice and didn't notice this at all....bravo.

That was a nice touch that I missed (of course), but I don't really see how it (or the Abed thing up-thread) makes the show better. It's at best a parlor trick, amusing when you see how it's done later; at worst just a gimmick to generate buzz. I think the show has been pretty hit-and-miss this season, and quite a bit weaker than the first. It's better with substantive satire and character-driven humor; picking pop-culture references just for the sake of referencing and "being meta bout being meta" makes it seem like it's trying too hard. Plus they've completely lost their way with the funniest character, Sr. Chang.
