ABC and NBC announce their 2009-2010 schedules

You can read ABC's press release here and NBC's here.

Medium and My Name Is Earl aren't on NBC's schedule and have presumably been cancelled. It's thought that Fox might pick up My Name Is Earl, while CBS TV was threatening in the negotiations with NBC to take Medium to CBS (NBC wanted to order 13 episodes, while CBS TV was insisiting on a 22-episode order).

Sorry, don't know when the premiere dates are announced.

According to Deadline Hollywood, NBC has confirmed that they've cancelled Medium and My Name Is Earl. So we'll have to see whether CBS and Fox pick them up.

I'm can't believe Medium was canceled, that just doesn't make sense. Also doesn't make sense that Samantha Who? was canceled and not Better Off ted and Dollhouse. What a crazy world we live in.

I think Medium might have some life left, but it will be used as midseason filler.

EDIT-

NBC has passed on ordering another season of Medium. However, CBS, which owns the show, is expected to pick it up and pair it on Fridays with Ghost Whisperer.
What a crazy ass TV year this is becoming.

EDIT 2 - Glad to see ABC is trying a full night of sitcoms on Wednesdays. Not glad they are dumb enough to cancel Samantha Who?

I can't believe NBC is using their 10:00 spot for Leno Monday thru Friday, and then using the 9-11 slots on Saturday for "encore presentations"!

It's seems to me, that once again, NBC has the new shows that I'm most interested in, which means another year of me getting addicted to low-rated good TV.

I think Parenthood and Trauma sound really good because it's from the creators of Friday Night Lights, which is easily the best show on TV. Plus they both have great casts.

Community looks awesome just because it stars Joel McHale and John Oliver; plus it's got some Arrested Development folks writing it.

Day One, which I think is an American version of a remake of a British miniseries (correct me if I'm wrong) looks like a good concept. The tenants of an apartment complex band together to survive a Mad Max/Jericho/The Road-like catastrophe.

The only crappy thing is that Southland has been moved to Fridays opposite Dollhouse but that's what my DVR is for.

I can't believe how many According to Jim clones ABC has on their lineup. I thought that type of sitcom was dead. As for their dramas, I'm most interested in Happytown and V, which both seem to hint that Amy Acker and Elizabeth Mitchell won't be returning to Dollhouse or Lost. Maybe Mitchell will shoot Lost first and then move onto V, which is a midseason series. And I'll check out Flash-Forward but everything about that show screams more high-profile dud (Threshold/Invasion/Surface/The Nine/Six Degrees/My Own Worst Enemy/Bionic Woman/Kings) than a hit. Maybe it's the words "Brannon Braga."

I'll probably check out Flash Forward because I am a fan of Jack Davenport after seeing Coupling and apparently someone at ABC thinks it'll be the next Lost. I have to agree with Barbados though on its short-lived fate. The same can be said about V. Actually I think V is more in the mold of Invasion/Threshold/Surface. If I had money I would bet more on the former to survive despite the Braga factor.

None of the new sitcoms I think is worth a damn.

Happy Town gives me a Twin Peaks vibe but not in a good way. I'll definitely check it out. Mind you Twin Peaks is among my top 5 favorite shows ever.

NBC's scripted programming for next season in order of longevity:

Friday Night Lights (which NBC airs after DirecTV) will have its 4th season in the summer of 2010. Although it's not mentioned in the press release, NBC will presumably air the 9th season of Law & Order: Criminal Intent at some stage after it airs on USA.

Parks and Recreation - 2nd season
100 Questions - 1st season

Knight Rider - 1 season
My Own Worst Enemy - 1 season

Half-hour

My Name Is Earl - 4 seasons
Kath & Kim - 1 season

Happytown, V and Flash Forward are the ones I'm interested in for now, because of their casts (Acker in H, Davenport and Fiennes in FF, Mitchell and Gretsch in V), writers (Goyer and even the much-maligned Braga in FF) and predecessors (the 80s V).

Of course, by the time any of them air on this side of the Pond, no doubt all you good BBSers in the US will have told us whether or not they're worth checking out!

Well, Law & Order goes back to the Friday death slot that nearly killed it a few years ago. I guess that cements next season being its last.

At least Chuck wasn't shipped off to scheduling hell (although it'll be going head-to-head against Dancing with the Stars).

CBS announces its schedule tomorrow, but word has come that it's cancelling The Unit. That's according to Michael Ausiello at EW. He's also reporting that My Name Is Earl is being shopped to Fox and ABC, while CBS is expected to pick up Medium to run after Ghost Whisperer on Fridays.

I can't believe Earl ended on a cliffhanger when it was so likely they would be canceled. Grr. Flash Forward, Human Target, and Day One all sound potentially bad or decent. "V" is the only new show that actually sounds cool though it likely be terrible as well! At least Chuck got renewed, that was a pleasant surprise.

Ausiello's also now saying that Without A Trace has been canned. Could be that Medium will be making the move across afterall.

Life and Medium gone? Aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhrrrrrrrrrgggggggggg!!!!!
Stupid blockheads, canceling my shows!

I'm going for Day One, V and Flash Forward. And(hangs head guiltily) Stargate:Universe. The rest of television outside of the Beeb can go rot(except for LOST/Heroes).

Apparently CBS chose between Without A Trace and Numb3rs for the final slot on their schedule. Numb3rs is cheaper to produce, hence it survived.

Odd, I didn't even think Numb3rs was in anykind of trouble. For a Friday night, it gets very solid numbers, pardon the pun!

I thought Numb3rs was safe as houses, too. The tightening of network budgets is having a big impact on renewals and cancellations this season.

It's cheap!

Rating no longer matter as long as the show is cheap to make.

Medium is moving to Fridays at 9pm on CBS.

This has been one interesting TV year. Cheap but bad shows return, good quality shows that cost slightly more but get better ratings are gone.
