A comment from T'Girl in the TOS crew thread made me remember this attempt at some TOS fan fiction I wrote in the late 90s/early 2000s. My basic idea was to try & weave as many of Eddie Paskey's TOS appearances as I could into a coherent story. I didn't get very far before I abandoned it as kind of a dippy idea, but I thought some folks here might get a kick out of it. Here it is:
USS Enterprise Lieutenant Ryan Leslie slammed down on the truck’s accelerator. The bulky vehicle lunged forward with an ugly squeal that turned into a scream as it rammed into Edith Keeler, killing her instantly.
“Mission accomplished,” thought Leslie as he stopped the truck and opened the cab door. Although Leslie had absolutely no doubt that the woman was dead, he made a big show of coming around to check the body, being careful to keep his head down all the while. In his peripheral vision, Leslie saw two men in a tight clench. The first one spoke in an anguished whisper, in a voice Leslie knew all too well, “You deliberately stopped me, Jim. I could have saved her! Do you know what you just did?” The second man didn’t respond to the first. He merely stumbled over a few feet and leaned against the wall, deflated. It was the third man who responded, calmly but coldly, “He knows, Doctor. He knows.”
Although he knew all three of the men, Leslie kept his face down and his mouth shut. It wouldn't do to be identified now, he thought, not after all this time. No, it wouldn't do at all.
Two weeks earlier and more than 300 years later, Lieutenant Ryan Leslie strolled down the corridor of the Enterprise without a care in the world.
And no, I have no idea why Lt. Leslie was intentionally running over Edith Keeler, other than that Eddie Paskey happened to be driving the truck in "City on the Edge of Forever." I didn't outline or plot anything out in advance and was just making it up as I went (Not a great way to start a writing project that you intend to finish).
I think I was leaning towards Lt. Leslie being some sort of secret evil mastermind, and I'd end the story with him faking his own death in "Obsession," as that episode infamously shows Leslie getting killed by the cloud creature and walking down a corridor later.
I'd also written the closing line, "And if Kirk ever got too suspicious, Leslie could always fake his own death."
Like I said, goofy idea, but I thought you folks might get some entertainment out of it.
