A very humble attempt at the Enterprise

Ok, so back in 2009, when the reboot came out (two years after I had 'planned' my own reboot of Trek) I decided to make my own reimagined Enterprise. It wasn't great but it was ok. Since then I've gone back once in a while to update it, more recently this week, and I've decided to share the latest version here.

Now, mind, this is done with MS Paint, so it's low-detail, and the projection from one view to the next may not be exact.

So here it is:

And with annotations and notes for texturing and modelmaking:

And the refit version:

Now, if you're wondering why the ramscoop has moved to the engineering section and was replaced by another piece of tech, I just thought having it near the place where the scooped material is stored, and near the other device that generates a field in front of the ship, would be more logical, and I just made up the other thing at the front of the nacelles for fun.

Thank you.

I'm interested in the Ramscoop. What function does this serve? I don't think I've seen one mentioned before.
Also, kudos for the clean MS Paint job. Nicely done :)

The ramscoop takes in gases from the space in front of the ship for use in the warp core as a supplement to the ship's reserves or to replenish them. Ramscoops are also called Bussard collectors, and they're usually the reddish or spinning things in front of the nacelles.

As for the "subspace modulators" I used in their stead, essentially they manipulate subspace, allowing the warp bubble, generated by the grilles on the inner surface of the nacelles, to actually move forward with the ship insida. They also serve as a subspace antennae for long-range communications.

Gotta admit although I'm not a fan of the Reboot's aesthetics, these are FAR better than what was presented to us in 2009 and the later refit.

Can I suggest that you two check out Inkscape? It's a free vector drawing program that will allow you to infinitely resize your drawings (any portions that are vector graphics).

I haven't opened Paint since about 1998, so I honestly do not know how it's evolved over time, but I am pretty impressed by the work I see done in that app lately.

Just thought I'd mention it.

Paint is essentially crap. I only use it because since Win7 my old DOS program no longer works, and I haven't really invested time in finding a free replacement.

I have gotten rather good with it, though. And, thanks for the suggestion.

I've tried to have this version not take too much from any single version. It's just my own reimagining of the original.

I like the designs. :techman:

Do you plan to continue the evolution to B-C-D-E ?

One thing that I particularly like, and feel that is a definite strength, is the 'chunkier' front part of the secondary hull. I thought that element was something that they did well with the Ambassador class and it works very well in your designs.

I am very curious, considering what you have already done here, if you might plan to incorporate that into a B design or go a different route. I haven't seen too much variation out there on designs for the B and I think you are onto something for a more cohesive progression if you go that way.

That's a very good question and frankly I hadn't thought about doing a B+ version... hell, my "A" might not even be the same as the refit. I just don't know.

Yeah there are definite Ambassador-class influences in the engineering section.

Actually, the very first design I did via Paint for Trek was, according to the lore I wrote back in 2005, a one-off testbed for new designs and technologies, which, once the problems were sorted out led to the Ambassador. The engineering section here is a modified version of that design.

Do you still have that archived and able to post here, so we could see it? I'm very interested.

Nice, I really like these!

I remember that ship from the JoAT, I think it's still there.

I love your take on the Enterprise, particularly the TOS version. You did a lot of very interesting changes, particularly how the impulse engine looks, I like it!

This looks good. I like how clean the looking the design is. If you're looking for a free alternative to ms paint, paint.net works good.

Thanks! To me, the smoothness of the original, the TMP and 2009 designs is key to the elegant, space liner look of the Enterprise. That's why Koerner's design, while pretty awesome, doesn't quite fit.
