As weird and eccentric as he is -- Jeffrey Bernard's profile of Baker from the 1970s is utterly glorious, utterly mad -- Tom is a man of deep feelings, and it's obvious that he misses his friends, very very much, from the way he writes and talks about them. You can tell that calling Ian Marter "a good egg" in Scratchman has a lot of emotion behind it.
