A Taco Bell Taco Shell Made Out of Doritos?!

This sounds okay, but when they start making them out of Fritos Corn Chips I'll be more interested.

You must have missed it then, because six months ago Taco Bell was making the "Beefy Crunch Burrito", which was a beef burrito filled with flamin-hot Fritos. It was impossibly delicious! It was a specialty item, though, and Taco Bell no longer carries the Fritos ingredient.

For my money, the "Cheesy Gordita Crunch" is still the best thing on (or off, since its usually a secret item) the Taco Bell menu!

Ah. Yet another entry ready-made for ThisIsWhyYou'reFat.com.

Sort of my thoughts when I heard of it. I could probably see the appeal, but I think Americans get enough crap for being fat and gluttonous and sort of... bizarre in our food creations.

I mean a taco shell made out of Doritos?! Have we really sunk this low, America and humanity? I love a good Chalupa, Gordita or XXL Gut-Buster Burrito as much as the next guy but come on, there's limits to what is tasteful!

Eh. Technically, Doritos are tortilla chips. Taco shells are tortilla shells. It's not sinking to a new level, it's crossing the street on the same level.
This is what I'm thinking. Are Doritos really that much more unhealthy than a normal taco shell?

If they do make this widely available, I might try one just for curiosity's sake, but that's it.

That XXL burrito just looks like all kinds of wrong, though.

Have you guys ever been to Chipotle or Pancheros? Their burritos are about twice the size of that thing.

I think many of the coatings on flavored tortilla chips contain significant amounts of cheese (or immitation cheese "product"), that would run up the fat content of the shell quite a bit. But a plain Taco Bell taco is made with ground beef and shredded cheese which together would provide much more fat then either type of shell. Their "Supreme" tacos include sour cream which would add even more to the fat content.

And, remember, these products are sold at such obscenely low prices. That commercial with the douchebag of a chef dicing up some chicken? Then being asked if he could do it for 99 cents? That bit of bird probably costs the store 30 cents, at most, hence the price. The likelihood of rather, er, unseemly preservatives being used in this food is most certainly greater than 50 percent. :)

Anyway, fast food is fast food. It isn't good for you, and with rare exceptions, it's uniformly awful.

Says the guy who deep-fried a hamburger.

I was young and stupid.

;)

Well, at least you've moved on from your earlier talking point of "if you fry it properly, the food won't take on the properties of the frying medium" or whatever bullshit you were trying to hawk. :p

The entire point is if you want essentially a filling meal for $4. That's the only point of Taco Bell. They have food (if you're being generous) that's really cheap, tastes vaguely like Mexican food, and will fill you up.

Especially if you're drunk and are craving pretty much anything.

Anyway, I think a Dorito taco sounds intriguing for what it is. If I'm drunk and there's a Taco Bell nearby, I'd probably try it.

I want to try one as well. It looks like it would be something to try at least once. I'm not sure how it will turn out in practice, but in theory, it looks promising.

It was said earlier that Chipotle offers burritos the size of the XXL (or larger) and this is true. The difference is that while I'm sure it's not much healthier (if at all), the ingredients are fresh, well seasoned, and taste delicious (IMO of course). That said, when I used to eat at Chipotle when I worked for Dell (the restaurant was down the street and we got a 45 min lunch), I usually ordered the 3 tacos dinner and an iced tea. Mmmm.... mmmm..... mmmmm.... I miss Chipotle.

Chipotle is at least twice the price. It definitely tastes better, but so does real Mexican food.

^^Speaking of. I've been meaning to tell you about a great little place in Arlington at the Lee Harrison center -- a couple doors up from Harris Teeter "Taqueria El Poblano."

Get the scratch margaritas and the lime steak tacos. It's advertised as "LA-style Mexican food" but it's still pretty damn good. You will not be disappointed.

There are hundreds of taquería-style places here in L.A. that serve quick, tasty, relatively healthy Tex-Mex food. I wouldn’t go near a Taco Bell if I was starving.

True, but I mentioned Chipotle because I often ate there. The best Mexican restaurant I've ever visited was the La Pinata, here in town. Delicious, delicious food, all ingredients from scratch, polite wait staff, and the prices were reasonable.

I'm not surprised. They have a partnership with Pepsi and have been selling Doritos for about a year now. I'll probably try one. I still wish they would bring back the chili cheese burrito though.

By Ballston Commons?

I'm surprised there's a restaurant that sells Latin American food that isn't Peruvian, to be honest (Pollo Rico, Pio Pio, Costa Verde, ...).
