A Star Wars Fan's Reaction to Star Trek

Besides the VFX they don't really have any anything...just performers standing where they're told to stand and reciting gibberish as best they can. There's one decent performance in them.

Which one is it?

McDiarmid.

He was actually the first that came to mind when I asked who you meant?
Then I thought of all the other (usually) very good actors in those films... well, it really does need a good director to let a good actor shine...

Currently, the novel section for Star Wars at the book store is three or four times bigger than the one for Star Trek.

My husband (a Wars fan), says it's precisely because there are only six movies. There isn't enough on screen for the fans.

I always wondered why Star Wars books always outnumbered the Trek ones and your husband's answer seems logical.

One time I looked at the restrictions placed on novels for Star Trek and wondered how you could really write a good book under them. Perhaps Star Wars authors are less restricted ?

A lot of good actors, told to stand here and say this by someone who was not very interested in the people in his movies.

Terrance Stamp was annoyed enough to talk about it publicly.

If you read Orci's Q&A at Trekmovie.com, it becomes clear that a lot of thought and considerable science goes into writing Star Trek. The authors who come in here are very knowledgeable, and I'm always impressed with their posts. I'm glad they want to participate.

I grew up loving Star Wars but the prequels really killed it for me. Those movies were so cringeworthy that I had to leave the theater halfway into "Atack of the clones"...
Watching the prequels I got the impression that George Lucas didn't even *try* to make good movies because he knew the fans would pay to see them anyway...

I think those Star Wars fans who don't like the new Star Trek are secretly jealous because this is a movie that's actually FUN to watch while the Star Wars prequels were boring and dull... ;)

The prequel-trilogy is like porn for me... I just fast-forward to the good stuff - the big action-pieces :D

I actually don't mind RotS.

Back in the 70's to me stuff like Space 1999,Star Wars and what have you was just a way to kill time while I was waiting for Star Trek to come back.

I've never understood the appeal of Star Wars. I understand I am in the minority on this issue, but I'll watch the worst Star Trek movie instead of the best Star Wars movie any day.

The means TMP verses TESB, lol.:guffaw::lol: NO CONTEST!

I love Star Trek, but I HATED & still DETEST the TMP.:scream:

If you were to show somebody both movies today that had never seen either, I can pretty much guarantee you which one they will like better.

Of course, isn't it because of SW that we got the whole Trek movie saga, anyway? If SW had been only a modest hit or flopped, then we'd have had Phase II.
And, let's put TMP up against any of the last three SW movies (not that I've seen them, but from what I've read and heard) and see how it stands. Further, put TWOK up against TESB and it's a fairer fight.

Delta Vega was like Hoth: SO WHAT!? Good! I loved it and am glad Trek borrowed from the playbook. All this stuff is just window dressing----but it still matters. Trek should borrow everything from Star Wars that works visually. Trek should borrow from SW and take anything from SW that helps to tell the story in an exciting way. All this stuff is just technical really. I like both franchises. Star Trek will always stand on it's own apart from SW.

There has always been something scientific, cerebral, contemplative, HMS, beagle-like, tension-based, realistic, more scary, team oriented, investigative, strange, bizarre, collaborative, enterprising, exploratative, 19th century expeditious, calculating and logical about Star Trek that sets it apart as a different apple from SW's rusty, dirt pitted, rebellious, haphazard and whimsical, fantasy romping and shoot from the hip orange. (of course all of that is embedded in Kirk--Kirk has always been part Han Solo {or should I say Han Solo is part- nevermind}--you know it, I know it and Bob Dole knows it)

Of those three films it's the best one, but still...

To me, Star Wars and Star Trek were always apples and oranges.

I will say that Star Trek 2009, as a prequel, is 100 times better than all three of the Star Wars prequels put together.

IMHO what always drew me back to Star Trek, more than even Star Wars, is that Star Trek attempted to present a generally positive, generally nice future for humankind and the Earth itself. I could believe in Trek on a deep level, whereas Star Wars and The Force will still just fantasy.

Even as I've gotten older and become more cynical, I still like Trek because it takes a generally positive view of the immediate future -- 500 years -- for humanity. You can almost connect the dots from our time to Kirk's time, or Picard's, without too much trouble.

Anyway, Trek II (aka: Trek XII) will need to be a tighter, tougher, more consistent and smarter movie than Trek 2009, for it to maintain franchise momentum. This new film has brilliantly supercharged things, and is a long-overdue splash of water on our faces. Let's hope they up the bar for Trek II and build on Trek 2009's success.

I worked on Star Wars Empire at War, and i will say. I never want to work on star wars projects again. When we were 7 months away from gold, they were complaining about detail things down to the fact that certain gases uses in turbo lasers created different color laser shots. It was that retarded.

I find the same types of things happen in almost all fandoms. It's kinda like cheering for your side in a baseball game -- the other team ALWAYS SUCKS. The guy could do a backflip and catch a fly ball at the same time, and he still sucks because he's not on OUR team.

Another thing is that people always love to bash the popular. Anything in a fandom that is liked by non-hardcore is automatically sucky.

I don't expect Star Wars fans to like Star Trek any more than I'd expect a Final fantasy fan to admit that Suikoden is cool.

I just don't give a shit. If the movie entertains me, it's good. Fan argueing is a joke.

It's kind of bewildering. This place has areas areas dedicated to Star Trek, Star Wars, Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica, Stargate, Terminator, Doctor Who and the list really does go on and on. Why does it have all of this and not so much on sewing, cooking, stamp collecting and typewriter repair? Because it's trying to focus on one specific interest group; Us. But Us doesn't feel complete with Them. Wether it's sports, religion, music, realestate or speculative fiction, it always boils down to a rather ironic never ending group effort to seek out individuality.
