A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones Spoiler-Filled Discussion

Interesting. Speaking of actor switch-overs, does anyone know if the original actor who played Gregor Clegayne is coming back for S4?

I think Conan Stevens was busy with The Hobbit during filming for Season Two, so hopefully now that that's over with he'll return as the Mountain.

Stevens had a falling out of some sort with the producers, so he won't be back. The new Mountain is one of their VFX guys (he "plays" the White Walkers whenever they appear).

A (relatively) big name like Hinds, who has a history with HBO and the people who make the show, is rather unlikely to be going anywhere. And I doubt a different actor would make a difference there.

I don't know about the accent, but I doubt the age difference will be a concern; he's going to have, what, one or two scenes, probably? And the longest of those will be in full plate armour.

Supposedly he is replacing the actor Ed Skrein as the sellsword Daario Naharis.
That would have been my serious guess. He has a similar look, though I rather liked what the previous dude had done with his few moments. He had the right swagger, even if he didn't have much material to work with. I could see Dany allowing herself to fall for him.

On the basis of his performance in Treme, I'd say the new guy is a better actor than the previous one. His character there was kind of an asshole but with redeeming features. He was a bit of a cliche, but he did his best to round it out.

The old guy seemed plenty suited to the role and I just generally abhor recasting. I hope they had a better reason than "oh, but this guy is better."

I'd rather have him in a full fourth season of Treme, but given HBO has basically pulled the plug on the show that was never going to happen, so I'm okay with him being Naharis (even if it's a bit of a demotion for him as it's a far more minor role than Sonny on Treme).
