A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones Spoiler-Filled Discussion

Don't know why so many people think Martin will write the Purple Wedding. Of the "event" episodes, David Benioff & D. B. Weiss have written "Baelor" and will write "The Rains of Castamere". Martan's only event episode was "Blackwater".

At this moment, each season of GOT has started slow and building up to huge events. I also think it will be bad writing to have the trial take so many episodes. You don't sideline your leading actor for that long.

"Baelor" isn't really an event episode, just an ordinary episode with an event climax. As a whole, "The Pointy End" is equally pivotal and dramatic. And as discussed above, Martin wouldn't have wanted to write "The Rains of Castamere" anyway. But whether he's actually writing the Purple Wedding or not, it's likely to come pretty early in the season.

Starting slow and building has worked for the past three years because the source material supports that structure, but it doesn't any longer. It's not like they can hold off the wedding until episode nine, and having the big turning point there is getting predictable anyway. Something is going to have to stretch unless they're putting large amounts of Feast and Dance in season four, and I think prolonging the trial is more likely than playing up the Tyrell/Lannister tension even further. It's hardly sidelining Tyrion to have him on trial for his life; I'm sure that, as in the books, he'll be interrupting the proceedings with witticisms whenever he pleases.

Here come the judges for Tyrion's trial.

I hope they can get back the original actor that played the Mountain in season 1 for the trial by combat. The second actor was very tall but not as physically imposing.

I believe the original actor played the main villain in The Hobbit so his availability presumably depends on the next two movies' shooting schedule.

[raises hand] I'm almost anticipating the reaction from those who don't know what's coming more than the actual episode... :D

I have to admit I had myself a sneaky peek at what happens in the books, so I'm ready for it. Also, it's episode 9 - something big/bad is guaranteed to happen!

This is really well done... to the tune of Billy Idol's "White Wedding"
