A Shatner thought

You know what - they should have actually remembered that he has played other members of Kirk's family as well. If I was making the movie, I think I'd have stuck a moustache on him and have him be George's dad, Tiberius. Then have him be the guardian who's car Jim trashes.

If Shatner had a simple background role without any lines, I would have agreed to him being in the movie. Perhaps as a tree or something. :D

Shatner wouldn't have agreed to that.

Agreed. What I think they should do (if there are sequels) is continue with this story and find some way to bring back Shatner. With Old Spock being present, I am sure they can find some way. Heck, if they followed Shatner's books, I wouldn't mind seeing the Borg again if it meant bringing back the original James T. Kirk. (Although I do like the nuKirk :) )

I like the idea of Shatner playing Tiberius, George's dad. It... would WORK... for me!

A smaller part would be okay, but plopping a huge, steaming pile of Shat in the movie would have been a mistake, and would have taken the focus off the new leads too much. Nimoy's appearance was just enough to be an integral part of the plot without stealing the thunder of the new guys.

It's not that complicated. Now that there's a new timeline, Kirk doesn't necessarily get trapped in the Nexus, so future Kirk from the new timeline can always go back in time.....

But I don't think they should do that. Enough with time travel for now. I hope they move on to something else, and don't try to shoehorn in more of the TOS cast.

What do you all think about Nichelle Nichols as Uhura's Mother, and Walter Koenig as Chekov's uncle or something like that.

personally Spock Prime is all we need in this new reality...

I love da Shat as much as the next fan. However, having seen recent photos and footage of him, I would have had a hard time believing him as the heroic figure that is Kirk. I remember reading he's on a ton of meds for medical conditions, causing quite a bit of bloating.

I would not have wanted to see a weird CGI thing looking like Shatner and voiced by him. As a relative? I would have accepted it, but part of my brain would be too busy thinking "Why isn't he just playing Kirk?" In general, I'm glad that he wasn't in the film. Nimoy's presence gave the film the weight it needed to act as a passing of the torch from one generation to another IMO.

I am one of the people it seems who was not pissed about Shatner not being in the movie. I've no loyalty to the actor, and I always wished he was played by someone with the acting skills of Patrick Stewart. I didn't have any problem with Abrams and Co. just going in a different direction and forgetting about Shatner.

Oh god not Shatner again...let it rest!!

Why not? He's the one that personified Star Trek. He's what Star Trek is all about. Why not give him one last play in a film?

If it doesn't happen I'd be fine with it, but I think it's a disrepect to the character.

I'm not pissed either, but I just thought it could of been a neat idea. With the altered time-line, I still say it should happen.

I think you're misinterpreting RAMA here. I think what he meant was: "Not this discussion about Shatner again", because this horse has really been beaten to death again and again.

If you were hellbent on bringing Shatner back, since this is a new history and he doesn't necessarily have to get sucked into the Nexus, you could do a story set in two eras and have the surviving TOS members playing the older versions. And then add the Lost "woosh" every time you change periods. :p

Now we're talking!

I propose as inspiration for the sequel:

Shatner as Pa Kirk. Shatner as Ma Kirk.

And don't forget, no more robot policemen. Shatner as T.J. Hooker, traffic cop.

I know you said no more time travel but....

I understand(?) how Spock can come back from his future because it has happened. Now that there is a new time line that these characters haven't created yet, how could Kirk come back from that? Just trying to get a handle on the whole tt thing.

Spock, Kirk, you, me whoever could (?) return from what has happened but could we come back from something that hasn't happened yet? My brain hurts.

I don't see the disrespect. He got a grand send-off in THE UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY and GENERATIONS . . . .

Shatner's place in STAR TREK history is already assured. But how many encores is he supposed to receive?
