A Serious? Question

I bet he had some private effeminate tendencies, given his mambo routine in Insurrection. Then again, those gender roles are supposedly erased in the 24th Century (see the skirt uniforms worn by male crewmen in the 1st season), so it may have been normal for anyone of any gender to have whatever interest they wanted. While it would seem 'gay' or 'feminine' to us (esp. in mambo-less nations), to them it was 'meh.'

I challenge any heterosexual man to truthfully say they've never danced the mambo by themselves. Ech, that sounded much less perverted in my head.

And don't forget Neela Darren.

Thank you, I had forgotten her name. There's also the Ba'ku lady whose name also escapes me. Seriously, who would leave such a place with a setup like that?

"Was Capt. Picard gay?" Not always. There were times when we saw him quite angry or upset.

His tryst with Vash would seem to discredit that theory.

:techman: Agreed. As does the quote from Patrick Stewart I use in my sig, "I personally like to think Picard and Vash had a very active sex life. I can't believe Picard just read Shakespeare up there in his room all those years."

Warmest Wishes,
Whoa Nellie

I doubt that the writers ever contemplated Picard as "gay", but I've always thought that the character - as Patrick Stewart eventually relaxed in his portrayal of the man - was a Renaissance figure - one not closed off to any possibilities. I mean, this guy's an explorer.

As time went on in the series it became very clear that Beverly was the one true love of his life, and yes, there are the flings with females along the way with Vash etc. And yet, we have those tantalising moments with Q and there is a real frisson there, due in large part to the acting talents of Stewart and De Lancie - that leave the question open.

In my personal view, Picard is a romantic in the fullest sense of the term. If it's for sex only he's going to opt for hetro. If it's true love, then it's Beverly without a doubt and no one else ever again. If it's pure mystery (with Beverly still playing ice princess) then Q might have a chance. But of course, Q is a god-like figure. Who wouldn't be flattered?

The key difference - in my mind - between Kirk and Picard - is that Kirk is a man's man whereas Picard is a woman's man.

No, it's not.

Bussard collectors are inanimate objects, devices attached to the forward nacelles of starships.

The question of a sentient being's sexual preferences is obviously different in kind, unhappy face notwithstanding.

Was Captain Picard gay?

Give it some thought if you're inclined or just laugh it off.

I wish he had been. Would've spared me quite a few stupid episodes that I have to ignore in order to stay calm and sane and healthy. ;)

Consider this quote (taken from here):

If Q is the freed nature of Picard, and Q might be gay, is there some possibility Picard is repressing homoerotic parts of himself?

Patrick Stewart: It is certainly possible. Picard's had plenty of affairs and relationships.
I've always seen him as bisexual. *shrug* Not that it matters much in the 24th century anyway, but still. The fact that we never saw him with a boyfriend doesn't mean that he never had one.

And his one true love is Q anyway, we all know that. ;)

since you missed the obvious train, let me break it down for you. why ask a question that has already been answered numerous times and quite obvious what the answer is? hence using the bussard collectors as an example.

if this was an attempt at sarcasm, then you fail.

:guffaw:

People just don't understand what it means to be prim & proper. To them, today, it seems gay

Janice Manheim (The one who got away) "We'll Always Have Paris"

Vash (The one that made no sense) "Captain's Holiday" "Qpid"

Nella Darren (Frankly, the perfect woman for him) "Lessons"

In "The Inner Light", he maintains a wife & raises a family

In "Tapestry", he goes back to his youth, & bonks his female Academy cadet friend

The man could envision anything he wanted, while in the Nexus, & what's he envision? a wife & family, enjoying holiday

There's even the possibility that, according to the finale, he will quite possibly marry Beverly Crusher

Every chick on the show has the hots for him, from the judge who presided over the "Data's rights" hearing, to Troi's mom, to the fricking Borq Queen

Picard = Hetero
