A Semi-Hater Revisits Voyager

Re: A Hater Revisits Voyager

Demon was just boring. I didn't think it was bad but being uninteresting or a chore can be just as damning as being outright awful.

The mystery was boring. The jokes were tired. Harry, Paris, EMH, Tuvok, Neelix just looked bad.

I give it 2 stars.
The only good thing to come out of "Demon" is "Course: Oblivion."
I wouldn't call that good. I'd call it a "Demon" spawn. I thought it wasn't very good and it didn't help season five by being a part of its own crappy back-to-back run of episodes along with "The Fight" and "The Disease".

Re: A Hater Revisits Voyager

Demon

I agree that Demon was stupid, I mean, how did Tom and Harry survive for 8 hours without oxygen??

But I did like its follow-up episode later on in season 5 with "Course: Oblivion". That episode was sad :(.

The lame jokes between Tom and Harry were apparently one of the producers asking the writers to highlight the fact that some of the cast members were putting on weight and that they needed to start exercising. Heard it in a Garrett Wang interview. But still, is ridiculous. You're about to suffocate! Stop wasting oxygen by talking and hold your damn breath!

Re: A Hater Revisits Voyager

Demon, as silly as it is, is still somewhat enjoyable episode for me.

Re: A Hater Revisits Voyager

Urh, ANOTHER episode I couldn't watch more than ten minutes of before turning the TV off in disgust last time they played. Setting aside the stuff about how dueterium is an isotope of hydrogen, the most common element in the universe, you mean to tell me that Voyager let their reserves get so low before they started looking for refueling? That's like driving into the middle of a desert and not looking for the gas station until after you've hit 'E'! And that doesn't get into turning off the extra drains on the resources until that point as well...

Likewise, I hated the overbearing way Tuvok was portrayed - no books, standard issue blanket only... Come ON! Like any member of the crew, not just Neelix, bringing a handful of personal effects is going to be that problematic?

Re: A Hater Revisits Voyager

Demon was just horrible - amazingly Course Oblivion was worse.

That really annoyed me, Neelix wasn't allowed to bring a pillow and blanket even though he needed them for medical reasons. Tuvok's response? Have Dr Shmully give him him an anti-inflammatory, something he would have to use the replicator to make hence using up valuable energy! How stupid are these people? :brickwall:

Re: A Hater Revisits Voyager

You must have been highly disappointed then.

Actually, I wasn't. Sure, there were episodes I didn't like that much, but otherwise I enjoyed the show very much. I would say that Voyager would be my favorite, edging out TNG by just that much *holding fingers really close*.

You said you looked forward to the Maquis crew integrating into the crew part of the series, therefore you must have been disappointed seeing how little attention it was given no?

Oh, I see what you're saying. I was bit disappointed. Maybe there could have been a bit more friction between the different crews and how they worked it out, but I was it was ok.

As stupid as the story requires them to be, in order to create 'comedic relief.'

I'm still waiting on the comedic relief, by the way.

That's just the way Tuvok was written for the most part - a stiff, joyless, serious goon. He comes across as a prick, and every time you think they've made a breakthrough, he's back to being the butt of the jokes the next week.

Re: A Hater Revisits Voyager

Tuvie never came across as a prick for me. Yes he was rigid, but he's a Vulcan. Love him.

Re: A Hater Revisits Voyager

Spock was a Vulcan and I rarely got the prick vibe from him except in a small number of episodes which I hate. (That Which Survives, I'm looking at you!)

If he always reverts to the status quo, it says less about his character and more about the writers of the series not caring about character development.

And it still feels like Tuvok was unusually overbearing in that scene, solely as a set-up for the... 'comedic' side story.

Re: A Hater Revisits Voyager

^ I'm trying to stay away from comments about rigid pricks, but it's sooooo hard!

"Demon." :sigh:

The only good thing to come out of "Demon" is "Course: Oblivion."

Which is another reason I can't stand "Demon"; "Course: Oblivion" sucks. A pointless sequel to a worthless episode.

I've not been commenting lately. Been busy with life stuff. But I've agreed with almost everything Godben has been saying (and as a Trek fan I'm less conflicted with Season 4 of Voyager than the previous 2) so I feel ok about that. I think the only review I disagreed with was "The Omega Directive" - which I tend to like for some reason.

And though I've not been commenting, I have been reading this thread. Thanks for keeping it going. It's been amusing. :techman:
