Re: A Hater Revisits Voyager
Ok, it has been a while...
I clearly overreacted and did not intend to directly attack GodBen so I apologise again, ...
I think it's very decent of you to say that. I know from my own experience how hard it can be to concede that something you have said was wrong.
I've certainly put my foot in it on many occassions in this forum, but I'm glad to see GodBen carrying on with his reviews, even if he rates some the relatively weaker episodes ("Once Upon a Time") over the stronger ones ("Drone") by concensus, but stating what's good or bad in entertainment is mostly subjective opinion rather than hard facts anyway, so it was childish of me to have meltdown like I did last week.
On hindsight and with wisdom, I personally think
Deep Space is a better series than
The Next Generation,
Voyager, and
Enterprise. But I do not get angry when
DS9 is deemed as supposedly "boring" and "anti-Trek", with its cast ensemble seen as hammy hacks.
Voyager is more lightweight than
DS9 and almost a virtual retread of
TNG, yet that does not stop it from being entertaining in Seasons Four, Five, and Six.
However on hindsight I thought Michael Pillar and Kenneth Billar sucked more creative like out of
Voyager than Brannon Braga, even if Braga penned the absolutely deplorable "Threshold" and the uninspired "The Cloud". I also do not get the dislike for Season Five, when it is (overall) leaps and bounds better than Seasons Two and Three with GodBen given most of Season Five's episodes passing scores, although I still think "Drone" is a better episode than "Night", "Once Upon a Time", and "Latent Image" put together ("Counterpoint" was loads better than "Once Upon a Time" and "Thirty Days" as well, in fact GodBen is actually giving higher marks to the more average and weaker
V'Ger episodes

).
I have a broad taste in sci-fi and see
Voyager as edible candy floss, alongside
Stargate SG-1, RTD
Doctor Who, and
The Next Generation, with the meatier stuff being
Farscape, Moffat
Doctor Who,
DS9,
Firefly, and
Babylon 5. I have similar pattern with cop shows - I'm a huge fan of the overtly stylized and relatively dumbed down
CSI as comfort television, but for some reason I can't stand
The Wire.
Oh, what an asshole. I don't know why he seems to think slamming the work of his guests is such a good idea. Besides,
Don't Forget To Remember is a beautiful song.
It still seemed very petulant and egotistical for Barry Gibb to storm out of a high profile interview just because he was being playfully needled by a host who was not an obedient ass licker. How would Barry Gibb cope in
Never Mind the Buzzcocks? We're not so prone to babying celebrities in the UK, although I respect Barry Gibb as an artist, and he must've had an off day.
